True - I see where your coming from - Greedy landlords arent helping with what they are asking for rents, High rates arent helping .

For years McDonalds & Burger King existed not only in Sligo Town Centre but in one of the most 'expensive' locations I should imagine which was O'Connell street - why cant it be replicated thats what I am wondering, is it really because of high rent and rates? - if it is and its that what is killing these establishments then Sligo Chamber should be involved and try and do something about it. - There are not many town centres the size of Sligo town where you would not find a McDonalds or burger King or chains like that so why should Sligo town be any different these days?

You know what they tell you you're getting. The truth may not be as appetising.
Personally, I think the likes of McDonalds and all other junk food outlets bring down the tone of a towns main street.

i got a chicken mayo in a burger bun in Mcdonalds just as a snack (didndnt fancy a full meal) - €1.49 .. tell me where else in town centre could get for that price and im all ears. We aint all blessed with cash where eating a little snack could be getting on for a tenner in some/most of the eating establishments in the town centre so therefore choice is taken away.

so Town centres should closed down all their McDonalds and Burker kings just because a select few people like you think it brings down a towns image - thank god they remain there for people in the majority that like them and know that there are meal deals and they are not going to get ripped off by independent places!

I'm not loaded,but if I want a quick bite to eat in town I can grab a sandwich or a soup in a cafe for a fiver or so.

I do think that if people had wanted a burger king or a McDonald's in town so badly they would have voted with their feet. They must have closed because they simply weren't profitable - people must have chosen to eat elsewhere.

I dont know why BK went but with McD's it was because their lease was up on the building in O'Connell street and they already had the drive-in up at the retail park. Very nearly always busy the one in O'connell street so it could not have been anything at all to do with footfall im almost sure of it

I'm nearly sure you're wrong, it had changed from franchise to company more than once, the lease was for many years longer than they actually kept the building for if I remember correctly.

And I can tell you pretty solidly it had everything to do with footfall...

It was also leased from the owners of the Four Lanterns, who own the building, doesn't make great business sense to rent from your direct competitor, regardless, there's a very good reason it wasn't 'renewed', too hard to turn a profit in the town centre.

Anyways, I quite like bringing the kids into the proper cafe's in town, I dare say Cafe Fleur do the best coffee in town, so there's plenty of choices if you ask me.

of course both could exist of course, the families with young kids, teenagers, school goers etc .. could go to McD's and the grown-ups when they dont have children with them can go eat in Cafe Fleur

OK this is probably old news, but anyways! I'm from Sligo but don't get back there too often. I was there a couple of weeks back, and absolutely loved the chocolate shop on O'Connell St (don't know the name of it!) I assumed it was new, but the owner said they've been there about a year, so I guess most of ye knew about it already. They do fancy chocolate bouquets etc, I thought they were just gorgeous! Now in fairness the prices were fairly steep, so I didn't buy anything, but I still thought their stuff was soooo cute ... I'm sure they did good business coming up to Christmas!

was in the recently re-opened eala ban last night, got a lovely meal and it was super busy. lovely decor well done great to see them up and running again. the new italian on the corner looked really well too and was also very busy, as was fiddlers restaurant area.. great to see that area so busy

I was in Ealai Bhan one lunch time and whilst the food was ok (And I would expect it to be considering the prices) the service was dreadful. Also a number of people(myself included)have commented on how rude the staff- including senior people involved in that restaurant are to diners who avail of the early bird menu.

that's a shame. the owner was there when we ate and came over to chat to us and see how the nephew was doing with his colouring in. we were in for the early bird menu.

There's a new cafe opened in the Quayside on the Next side. JK I think it's called. I can't see how Sligo needs another cafe to be honest though.

It's where Café de Paris was so I suppose it was already kitted out for a café. I'd agree that we're café'd out though

The mark up on cups of coffee and tea are fairly nice. Not sure about coffee, but with tea a teabag is 3c, witht the cost of hot water it couldnt be more than 10c. Sell that on for 3 euro...

Looking forward to it as well. Past it today, not the biggest of places but I think that's good. Look at Poppadom's, always looks emptying. I have a feeling that a fair few people that try it might not like it and there will be a lot that will be scared to try it. First time I was in Thailand I hated the food. There was a taste from most dishes that I didn't like. Turns out it was coriander. Now Thai food is my favourite cuisine, by a mile. Good fresh food, most of which is health, far more healthier than Chinese.

Nice looking menu, slightly Thai/SE Asian more so than solely Thai. Missing a couple of dishes I thought they might have had. Can anyone shed some light on why they only included the cals on the two prawn dishes?

Absolute Beauty Salon will be opened by sligo students this Thursday. It will be held at CMD training centre in Collooney. This will be in aid of North West Hospice . They will be open every Thursday and Friday.
