Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I used to hate the smell of kidneys - ala steak "n" kidney pie. I never understood why I disliked the smell but proceeded through life without kidneys (other than my own. [naturally])(ahem). But one strange day of hangover I tried steak "n" kidney pie and got over my dislike of smell of the stuff just like I once did with the taste of beer. So I ate said pie (nyom, pie) for some time.

Now... just a week ago I bought steak exclamation mark exclamation mark n kidney pie and realised just why I disliked the smell of kidney. I had an epiphany, a kidney epiphany, or as they say in the vegetarian world a "Kidniphany". I suddenly realised what that smell was when I was eating the pie. It smelled exactly like old pensioners that don't wash their clothes and go to the toilet without taking down their trousers, it smelled like festering urine. I realised in that kidniphany moment that kidneys clean the blood of toxins, kidneys... make pee, kidneys have pee inside them. That smell that I was smelling was... pee. I almost vomited (but I was hungry).

    So I don't like kidneys now. ;)

    What do you not like?

    Jeebus, myself too.

I can't even see it without my head going into those spinning-spasms one gets when youv'e had a bite juicy bite of something bitter/cellery-ish and can't get rid of the taste.
    Absolutely horrible
Dunno how anyone could think that it's healthy.
And as for those ads where yer want is munchin down a raw stick of it, or dipping it into something (Philadelphia I think) - How The Fúck?

I tasted dandelion as a young ald (curious etc.) and Cellery tastes the same.
    pure cellulose shíte.
    Tis not food at all.
Aside from that I really really dislike crapy boiled spuds, or mashed potatoes that have chunks of bad spud in em (you know the bits - they're not rotten, look exactly like normal spud, but you can't mash em and the stick out like stones in sand in your mouth) - pure muck.

Can't drink/smell buckfast without wanting to throw up either.
Result of a bad experience one night while bushing.
two bottles of the nectar in a little under half an hour. Fécked them into the woods(we were in a clearing round a fire).
Was pretty wasted, lost me glasses, nearly fell asleep in the fire, thied to blow into the fire á la bellows to keep myself warm, ended up stumbling home, puking every bit.
Fell into bed, woke up with brown/black puke on my pillow, in my hair and on my French-English dictionary.
    Luverly stuff all together.

Can't stand mushrooms. Urgh. I've never eaten kidney, and I don't plan to start any time soon. I haven't eaten liver since I was about 8, hated it. Also eggs. I'm not mad about most plants either (celery, brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage).

I hate all offal. Anything that is swimming in grease, it makes me want to heave.

deffo salantro (i dont know how to spell it either). Even a tiny bit of it will completely ruin a sandwich or salad or burrito.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭Borzoi

Offal is right out, tongue, kidney, liver etc (Though if you chop it up, season it and put it in a burger, I'll be fine)

Boiled Parsnips, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Cabbage, hideous nauseating smell

After that I'll pretty much eat anything:) especially if i don't know what it is.

    Cilantro = Coriander

    Cucumber is disgusting
    Mussels are revolting
Pate is one of the foulest things invented ever. (Probably cause of what comes next)

But the most utterly disgusting, revolting, foulest food ever is liver. Even the bloody smell of it cooking is disgusting.

I detest nuts, except nummy roasted, salted peanuts. All other nuts are muck. So too is Marzipan and the sh1te they put in turkish delight. And liquorice (sp?)

    I'm a bit of a freak though, I hate;
Cheese (uncooked), tomatoes (whole), mushrooms (whole), fish, mayonnaise.

    But I LOVE

    Cooked cheddar/mozarella.
Bruschetta - Raw Mozzarella and tomatoes pieces, on Italian bread, covered in Olive oil.
    Mushroom soup/sauces
Tuna and mayonnaise. Foul when separated, heaven when joined :D

All of which are mixtures of stuff I hate. Weird.

That would have to be the worst thing I have put into my mouth.
Harkarl is Greenland shark that has been buried on an Icelandic beach over winter, then it is dug up and cut into cubes and served to Icelanders that love it with their local firewater, also served to unsuspecting people like myself walking around Reykjavik.
It is like eating tough stringy steak with the aroma of fermented nappies.
    Ammonia comes to mind.

Pickled ox tongue in aspic jelly, topped off with a slice of hard-boiled egg.

Now, it could be palatable enough in the right circumstances, but served for breakfast with a shot of vodka (after several bottles of vodka the night before) was not the time for new culinary adventures.

It was the third breakfast course, after already having salami & cucumber, & sausage encased in potato.

    There's a few...

Tripe - think I had packet and tripe before, tasted like wee.

Olives, I've tried them a few times, for some reason I was convinced I should like them and maybe I had just tasted bad ones in the past, but now I've accepted that they're just horrible. I don't know how anyone could like them, they taste poisonous.

Marzipan, texture and flavour makes me feel physically sick.
