Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Which scrapyard was it? the one at the front near the road or the one behind it? I know Bobby who has the one behind (furthest from the road), doesn't sound like something he'd do.
It used to be one big yard but now is split in two, Bobby (a gent IMO, with no time for gobsh1tes) has the one furthest from the road and his brother( don't know him, had one dealing with him , never again) has the one nearest the road.
Anyone near Navan/Kells I'd recommend Caldwells on the Oldcastle road out of Kells 046 9243919

Its the one nearest the road, dealt with a fella wearing the thickest glasses I have ever seen.
He was lucky I did not turn them into contact's.

Does anyone have any evperience with the breakers in the Donegal/Derry area?

I'm needing a new mirror and another few bits and the ones I've tried haven't even heard of my car.
Its on 01 Agila. Opel or Vauxhall.

I've tried one in Ballybofey and Tullyally.
    Phoned one in Dongloe.

are those scrapyards as photographed by Scrawb on his Flickr page still open? or have they been cleared :(

Ger is still flying the flag ... I was there a couple of months back. I think he's had it with people who expect stuff for nothing, and once he realises you're not there to yank him about he's 100% sound. Very decent fella and very obliging.

He's doing what he has to do to keep the Exceptionally Poxy Antagonists at bay, but most of the stuff that's getting crushed has had it anyway from decades in the open! Still quite a selection there though!

Tip: Don't enter his yard in a 'slammed' VW :p

Kilcock car dismantlers, savage place. Lets you go and get the bits yourself
I'm surprised any place lets you do this these days with insurance liabilities etc. Years ago people were handed tools to help themselves to grab motorcycle parts at City Spares when they were in the former location at Francis St, that soon stopped when people were grabbing stuff and not paying for it. :p

the number for mc brides in kilkenny is 056 7768684......great place for older cars as he used to bring in alot from nz/ oz etc.....he is pretty expensive IMO...but still has alot of stuff....well he did a few years back....:D

i went to mcbrides when i was working in callan for a look rang him up as he had some ford classics for sale they arent at the scrapyard but in a yard in hugginstown, bit of a rough man alright big beard and always on the phone.
anyway went to the yard and in the big shed is about 40 or 50 classics, escorts, capris, cortinas, viva, old rover p6,p5,p4 triumph heralds etc all his prices were way over the top most of the escorts were oz imports and not as straight as you would imagine.
got no pics as i was escorted around by a gent who couldnt speak or wouldnt not sure which.

One of the lads down here bought an ex Oz 120Y Coupe from him, and another guy a KE35 Corolla. That was back in the good times tho.

hahaha......he showed me around the shed with all the cars in it....i was looking for an escort van at the time, he wanted 5k for it an wouldnt budge on the price...i was gonna offer 2k max but way over priced...it was the one that was on done deal a couple of times....the navy one...that owner did a good job on it....:D.....

when you take into cosideration buying the vehicle in nz/ oz, then shipping it, then transporting it to his place you can see why his prices are high....id say he was making around 1k -1.5k a car.....he was one of those guys who could afford to do it though

You mean always on two phones at the one time:eek:,I dont know how he does it, it would wreck my head.Yes he is a little rough around the edges:P and his customer service leaves alot to be desired;).He does not like people who cant make up their mind. You cant browse around on your own like you used any more but that's the way most scrappys are gone nowadays. He does have proper sign-age on the roads now though, unlike before which was just an ole handwritten sign on cardboard:D

I love classic cars as much as anyone else on here, but I for one, am delighted to see unlicensed scrapyards being closed down.

Lots of these places, including some pictured on this thread are nothing more than illegal waste dumping grounds, where engine oil, battery acids, ATF, antifreeze, and other such items leach into the ground and water tables.

Yes, I know many of these places have kept many cherished classics on the road, but at what cost?

I'm sure such places do exist, but in the case of the guy I'm on about they made him drain all fluids from the cars. From limited personal experience I did much better with said unlicensed guy. I got 5 beautiful alloys unmarked (and one with a practically new tyre!) along with a rake of other bits for €90.

A licensed place in Wexford sold me 4 wheels a couple of years ago for €90 and one of them is more square than round. They all came with 'farmyard special' tyres that promptly went pop, and not one of the alloys could be described as being in good condition. I think a lot depends on the chief mucker
