2 years ago my wife of 20 years decided that she no longer wanted to be married - our child was dealing with a long term illness at the time and asked her to at least wait until they were better before telling them of her decision. that time has come and now the kids know but she still won't leave without her money - my question, what is she entitled to if she wants out - she has not indicated if she wants joint custody (i want the children to stay in their own home) - if she wants to be on her own, do i have to pay her. any thoughts or advice, thanks in advance

You need a solicitor. Your own solicitor specialising in family law and not one who knows your wife or any of her family or extended family, if you can at all avoid it.

What both of you may be entitled to depends on a million factors, only a family law solicitor is properly equipped to advise you on your specific circumstances.

Hiring a solicitor doesn't mean that you're turning this into a bitter battle. They're simply a third party with experience in these matters and no personal involvement in your scenario. You don't have to take a legal road, but a solicitor can advise you on the best way to approach this matter in a reasonable way that you can avoid court.

Regardless of utilizing a solicitor, it sounds like you and your wife could do with a good mediator.good luck.
