Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

wow, cheap Guinness there (plus a free glass) - pick up their loyalty card and you also get 2% back on all beer. They're currently doing 24x500ml Carlsberg for €24 as well.

The Guinness on offer is normal strength 4.2%, I presume you are referring to the Carlsberg being 3.8%?

Had a few cans about 2 years out-of-date there recently, tasted fine.

Providing they were kept away from heat they stay good for ages. :)

nah, you could get a month or two out of Guinness Draught cans I've found. One of the first things to go is the surge, often the head will be quite flat looking but taste is fine.

Silly people, guinness tastes better after its BB date.
My friend purposely leaves guinness for as long as he can after the BB as they are nicer.
I personally find guinness a year or two old tastes pretty much the same.
Remember its "best before" not "use by"

I wouldn't agree that that they taste ok a year or 2 after the best before date. Last year they had a crazy deal on Guinness, i bought about 10 crates. By the time I polished off the last couple of crates they were about 6 months out of date. They were flat, lifeless and had no creamy head and tasted like a stale pint(which is what it is in all fairness)

my favourite is the 2005 vintage, nice caramel tones with a hint of bitter chocolate and truffles, I ran out of it over the christmas holidays

I believe the glass does not even hold 500mls, which is strange - but the beer is still cheap so happy days...

Well you believed wrong! It holds exactly 500mls!
Maybe you tried pouring a 500ml can of guinness into it which of course when poured into a 500ml glass does not fit because of the head
A pint glass will fit a 500ml can of guinness

True,it doesn`t allow for the head.
Just 1 more glass to collect now,and they are dishwasher safe which helps!
Tonnes left in Newbridge branch,i wonder will they drop in price again as the 27th closes in :D.

Just picked up some of these in Beacon SC Branch in Sandyford - loads left there still. I think it is very strange that Guinness are giving away a glasses that will not hold the 500ml can, bought 6 packs all the same!! Just have to let it settle..........take a sip.........then top her up! Ohh it's great being snowed in!!;)

Is this the "pint" glass that is slightly too small to fit a 500ml can of Guinness in it.

Well no, it's a 500ml glass to suit the can, rather than a pint glass.

The contents of the can doesnt fit either - you can get all the black part of the guinness into it but none of the white. Maybe Im pouring too eagerly:)

I have some of these, the problem with the ones nearing their best before date is that the widgets are hit and miss, you will find that some fail to do their thing..

well no one said it was a pint glass! and yes it is too small, the head will never fit.

i think its just a pint glass would be too big to fit in those packs properly so they're being cheap and making this 50cl one.
A pint glass is all that suits 50cl cans.
Also you dont get anymore in the pub!

Got these and will get loads more. I have wanted the 500ml glass for ages. I hate pint glasses

That is not being cheap! pint glasses are far more common so due to economies of scale I would expect the 500ml ones would be dearer, even with less glass. A pint glass would fit in that box no problem. A pint glass is far too big for a 500ml can, this is one reason I usually drink cans of guinness right from the can (and have converted several people who were shocked to see me do it at first). It never reaches the top of a pint glass and you have a horrible scaldy looking head on it reaching up the sides, or else it has a gigantic bishops collar if you do manage to fill it. With the 500ml glass simply do not pour it all out in one go, I got a beautiful looking "pint" with the 500ml glass, then after a few sips pour the rest of the can in.

A mate of mine used to keep a open 330ml can to top up his scaldy looking "short pints" in real pint glasses, sometimes he used to pour in a drop of water before pouring to build it up to top and have a good head. (guinness is already diluted down with water after brewing before people scream sacrelige)
