external hard drive buggered

    ive had external hard drives go belly up on me before but have always managed to retrieve the data on its.

    this time i passed it on to a mate of mine and once he opened up the drive he could hear that 'clicking sound of death' (as he put it). on it i have a couple of gigs of photos and about 150 gigs of music that i want back. my mate said that he knew of some places that specialise in this but he thinks they cost a good bit. does anyone know of somewhere that does it for a reasonable price, maybe about €150?

    You could try the freezer trick,
    put in the fridge ,sealed ziploc bag,
    for 3 hours.
    try it ,connect to pc.
    Using a sata caddy.
    it will need a powered caddy unit, cost 30 euro.
    USB caddy
    if its a 3.5inch drive,
    is it a 2.5inch drive,or 3.5 inch sata drive?. I don.t think there.s such a thing as a cheap data recovery company.

    so i put the whole external hard drive into the fridge for 3 hours?

    not sure if this is for real or if someone is taking the mick :confused:

    mind you, the drive is broken. might be worth a shot

    Freezer trick only works on very rare occasions, and I'd never recommend it if the data on the drive is sensitive or important. You'd be as well to go down the professional data recovery route, but its not cheap unfortunately.
