Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

medical card

    i am soon to become self employed. im opening a hair salon the end of jan. should i apply for medical card now before i start work as i dont think im entitled to one afterwards. or am i?
    my business will be taking in under 37,500 grand a year so i wont be getting taxed as its only a small business.

    You will still have to pay income tax. You just won't have to register for VAT.
    You will probably lose your medical card when you start working, so there's no point in applying for one. By the time you get it you won't be eligible any more.

    AFAIK medical card is usually issued for a year, after which it is reviewed - not earlier. Nor there is an obligation to inform HSE about your income, so you shouldn't lose the entitlement until after a year.

    The card is usually issued for one year after which it is reviewed. Depending on your circumstances it may be issued for a longer period. If your circumstances change, you must inform the HSE as you may no longer be eligible. For example, if your income or family circumstances change, you must inform the medical card section at your Local Health Office as soon as possible...
