Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone looking for a cheap TV for bedroom/kitchen could do worse than deal in Tesco today. Samsung SyncMaster T200HD priced at €99.
    Full specs here.
    Pros:
Acts as PC Monitor with DVI and 15 pin DSub
    MPEG 4 Tuner
    Cons
Not MHEG5 (ie no text on DTT etc..)
However €99 is definitely a bargain.

No hdmi though so watch out!

Well ,i guess seeing as it doesnt have any speakers, a simple hdmi to dvi lead will do the trick!

Hold one now, if this does have a tuner, shouldnt it have speakers!? I'm confused, is that definitely the right spec-sheet? It doesnt mention any tuner there

Pity there are no speakers. I attached a pic of the price tag, although its probably no use to anyone. Sold out in Tesco in Douglas Village shopping centre.

IT does have speakers: 3Wx2Ch, see the link in my previous post.

a bit confused with the does it doesnt it have speakers.
The specs mention multimedia speakers - does that mean not built in but separate.
Also a bit vague about the MPEG4 / HD tuner for Saorview.
    Please clarify anyone who knows

im pretty sure in regards to the speakers, the t.v is classed as a pc monitor however you can use it as a tv too,so you won't get the little external speakers with it but you will get sound from the telly itself.

Just to let people know, the Sligo and Carrick-on-Shannon Tesco's don't have any if you planned to check either.

Bargain if you live near a Tesco that has them.

Is it any good as a Computer monitor though?
Or is there better for the same price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,590 ✭✭✭davehey79

Theres a thread on this from ages ago got one myself but returning it for a refund due to it not having an mpeg4 tuner and thus not Saorview capable. Here's the thread for anyone interested LINKY Note: This is not a problem if you only intend hooking it to a cable / satellite box but if like me only the main room has sky and you want the digital Saorview channels in a bedroom without the hassle of cabling from the sky then maybe think about an mpeg4 tv.

I don't see any mention of a headphone socket, for watching tv at nighttime.

    .
There are two versions of this TV, see here.
Model number LS20TDDSUV/EN is mpeg2 only and model number LS20TDVSUV/EN is mpeg4. Both are sold under the name T200HD. The one I purchased today is mpeg4 version.
CreepingDeath I don't see any mention of a headphone socket, for watching tv at nighttime.
There appears to be a headphone socket at side, although it's slightly obstructed by a piece of plastic, presumably it's connected.

    ?????

Anyway thanks to Markr for the box photo and Dec and Davey for the model info.

So it does have built in speakers (3Wx2Ch SRS TrusurroundXT)
and there is only one model with Mpeg4 the LS20TDVSUV/EN

The other is model will not be able to receive Saorview

I see no mention of an analog tuner so probably no use for things like Sky box uhf etc

    Just to clarify:
    1. When country set to Ireland it has VHF/UHF tuner also.
    2. Sound from the 3W speakers ain't up to much but for €99 you can't argue and external speakers can be added thru optical out, component etc...
    3. There are 2 x HDMI outlets, one at side and one at rear.

Good luck to anyone searching for one of these...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭zekiel

Just in Tesco Maynooth, spoke to one of the staff who let it slip that he doesnt thing they ever made it to the shelves.. they got 16 in.

    Not a particularly fair outcome.

Was down there early the day after Stephens day when they opened and never saw them.

No fanfare just yellow ticket.had my eye on this earlier in year when at 179 for screen and Killarney seemed to have plenty at time.

    Even checkout girl seemed suprised

Hi Zekiel. The thing about Tesco is - even if you ask the staff you have to look yourself. The last time I bought a TV up there for my mother the guy in charge of TVs, who I had asked to speak to,told me there were none of the model she wanted. About 10m away I then found a pallet load.

    Back to this thread though.

There were none of the Samsungs in Lucan so myself and friend dropped up to Tesco Maynooth at 17:30 today. We found 3 on a shelf. We got one each and there was another guy looking at them. When we took 2, he grabbed the third one. This was in an aisle about half way up on the right as you walk in. Not near the Tv section. Maybe they are rationing what they are putting on the shelves but they were definitely there today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭zekiel

Just got back from Tesco Maynooth. (after reading your post)

today at 2:30 there was definitely none in stock (searched the area where you got them), I was told they definitely were not getting them back in any time soon.

so 3:00 lodged a complaint with the head office after what the staff member told me about staff purchasing them.

Low and behold 5:30 you head in and find 3 on the shelf.

Needless to say I lost it a little with the manager for been given the run around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭HungryJoey

Tesco Maynooth definetly had 3 in stock around 5PM. I nearly grabbed 2 myself - I resisted! (tbh, there wasnt any more room on the shelf for any more, so It wouldnt suprise me if they only keep a few on display and have a cage load in the stockroom ).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭Dufresne

    Hi Zekiel
I'm wondering did we benefit from you complaining to head office. Maybe they were told to put some out? Would it be worth your while heading over to the Celbridge one?
