Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not sure, I was waiting till next year to get a Samsung NC-10 in the sales, and am now undecided. Has much the same specs as the NC-10, which is one of the better netbooks.
Its probably some other netbook in disguise, but with a Targa label, a bit like ALDI's Medion Akoya Mini netbook this summer was a rebranded MSI Wind.
    Tempting price though!

Don't get it. As I mentioned already in Bargain Alerts thread, the Samsung NC10 is the same price as the Targa Traveller but its a far far better buy.

Here's some more detail on the Targa:

Just remember, with all of these, it's no use buying one if you end up adding RAM, bigger batteries and harddisks etc. Personally, the Asus/Acer ones with the SSDs running Linux are better for the purpose for which they were intended ... boot up in 15 seconds and get on the net. They're also less expensive. Running Windows on one of these things completely defeats the purpose.

Why not? I have added 2GB RAM to mine and I would take a 2.5" HDD over a slow SSD any day of the week. I keep my music collection and films, TV shows on it as the screen is a perfect size to view them and do a small bit of office work on it.
I would also say that 95% of users prefer Windows for its familiarity and ease of use over Linux.

    Exactly what he said.

I probably shouldn't double post (duplicated over in bargains section) but heres what I can see of this machine. I notice the battery only has 15 months warranty though not 3 years.

    Link to Targa site here
    http://www.targa.co.uk/index.jsp?SID...AMS2=&SPCAREA=

This device has wireless N which is a plus over the Samsung laptop. Obviously not important unless you use a wireless N router to shift files around your network or stream video, etc. I do and have found wireless N to be a big step up overall.

It only appears to have 10/100mb wired network connection while the Samsung seems to have a Gb etherenet connection.

Hard disk is the same as the Samsung in terms of size, ram is the same, processor is the same. The battery seems to be the same also (6 Cell). Bluetooth is present too or so the link claims.

Keyboard and feel may be big points, no idea on this. Looking at the keyboard layouts between the two machines they seem very similar.

Very few differences between the Samsung apart from the Targa having better wireless support and a 3 year warranty with the Targa.

Seems a reasonable price to me based on the above specs.

Point out where I may have it wrong of course.

The battery life in the samsung would be far superior, and as for the keyboard, although i haven't seen the keyboard on the targa, the samsungs keyboard is great.

If you were anywhere close to the border go to Lidl in NI and at current exchange rates you would get it €50 cheaper

....and avoiding what happened to me a few weeks ago, going thru London Heathrow on the 10th Dec, the Samsung was £280 stg in Dixons Tax Free(Price in Currys here €399), but they were out of stock. They only had the display model left, which they said I could have for £254, but the screen had a lot of paw marks on it, so I declined, thinking in error that once X-Mas was over, the price would tumble & I would get a bargin.
Within a few days, it had risen to £297, followed shortly by £306 (which it currently still is), I could have saved myself lot of dosh by buying the display model. All with full warantee. :(
I doubt the Samsung will drop significantly in price soon considering the good reviews about it on the web and hi demand. Bummer

PS: PC World here currently has it on its 'Sale' for €399, which is a load of b*lls, considering that it was this price 2 weeks ago.
