Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rome meets on Dublin on 25th february 2005
On stage (Cantiere theatre, Roma, Via Modena 92 Trastevere)Mardi Gras and The Niro from Roma and Sue Dolan.
Singer Sue Dolan (a.k.a. Strapa) is 24 and hails from North Dublin, Ireland. She is relatively new to the Dublin live scene having played a handful of shows in the Shelter, Eamon Doran and with Pawns in e.a. ( now electro rock lovlies Dry County ) and as part of the 'Songs From the Parlour' sessions. Strapa, whose idols range from Gram Parsons to Nirvana, is soon to emerge with a self-recorded ep with the working title of ‘autumn songs’. Her style is self- stated ‘kind of quiet melody-driven noise’. To the listener it may echo chimes of Stina Nordenstam and her set is mostly electric with the rare appearance of a piano. Her plans for the future include moving out of Dublin to “grow and get the courage to play a little more..."

Mardi Gras are a quartet with a strong connection with the dublin scene, their very first demo was reviewed by Hot Press and their first ep is being sold at Road Records and Freebird in Dublin.

"Mardi Gras are taking a different musical road, but have opted for a similiar Euro-traveler approach to world domination. They are from Rome, Italy and have chosen Dublin as a temporary home base, which may explain the English rather than Italian lyrics. The cover letter tells it was recorded over five months and that the band are preparing a promotional cd. Mardi Gras are doing some interesting things, and seem to have the work ethic any band needs to succed. They don’t mention any specific Irish dates, but from the sound of this demo they would be worth the bus fare into town - if not quite the plane fare to Rome." (Hot Press)

Don’t be put off by the title, Mardi Gras aren’t heirs apparent to Celine Dion. ‘Ballads’ in fact contains three tracks of warm, fuzzy guitar pop from the Italian band. There are Irish influences there as well that comes from the time they have spent playing live shows there and it is seen in the loose arrangements of the songs, though their Latin background comes through the jaunty rhythms on display. The best moment is the menacing finish to ‘Beneath the Moon’ –if this is their idea of a ballad I'd like to hear their angry moments".
