Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Terenure to Blanchardstown on M50 - please advise!

    Hi there,

I just found this site tonight when googling....I really hope someone can answer this question for me!

Considering a move to Terenure - am renting in Fairview and lease almost up and have friends in terenure going away for 12 months, hence I could rent their house and everyone's a winner. However, I'm only in Dublin one year, s still a bit clueless about areas outside where I live and work, and I work in Blanchardstown. Takes 40 minutes max every morning from Fairview as I'm going against most of the traffic.

Would it be pure and utter madness to move to Terenure and have to travel the M50 every day? I'm being advised it's a gruesome journey from Terenure, and I'm aware the chaos will get worse once this ballymount diversion begins.

Does anyone travel this journey to work, and if so could you please advise?

    Thanks a million,

    Audders.

Terenure is a lovely place to live - l lived near there (Rathgar)for about three years.

Commuting to Blanch is painful..unless you live in Blanch..even then it painful.

You'll pay the toll everyday (unless you go via the canal and Haralds cross)..I wouldn't recommend it.

I would strongly recommend trying to find somewhere closer to work..Terenure to Blanch = Tears.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Thank you so much for yur reply...I appreciate it.

I read your message with a sinking heart.....I know it'a a long way but I was kinda hoping I'd get a positive response, or some secret back street way to get there is less than half an hour with no traffic!!! You can tell I don't know Dublin.

Really would love to live in Terenure...even if it was just for a year. But at what price....? Apart from the fact that my banger car probably wouldn't even ast the distance every day!!!

Blanchardstown is ok though....I wouldn't live there, but it's not the worst place in the world. Fairview hasn't been that great, but I have chosen to ignore the negatives (burgled / car stolen / lots of bad things in the park) due to it's proximity to the city centre and the cheap taxi's home!!

Back to the drawing board then...

    A x

There are MANY ways to get from Terenure to Blanch and none of them involve taking the M50 which is pure madness.
Never having tried it in the morning though i cant say what way is best.
I would give heading towards walkinstown, Kylemore road, Ballyfermot a go. Then go down to chapelizod, up knockmaroon hill or Phoenix park and then you are almost to blanch.

Audders, I suspect that Fairview to Blanch is no picnic, and going to Terenure would only add to your current commuting times etc. not to mention stress levels !

You're looking for a quick way to do it in less than 30 mins ? You'd be lucky to do it in less than 60 in either direction any day ! Invest in a scooter, and that might make the journey slightly quicker toverall, esp. if your current "banger" is unreliable.

As above, a scooter or motorcycle is your best option

Or move to Drumcondra and take the train from Drumcondra to Castleknock/Coolmine and walk or cycle from there.
Or move to Blanchardstown area. The train will be good for getting you into town in the evening for socialising.

Plenty of nice areas in and around Blanchardstown and as daymobrew says, train into town in 20 mins. Live near Clonsilla/Coolmine/Castleknock stations and you're all set. I've lived in D15 for a long time. Never burgled or had a car stolen or know anyone on this road who has.

There's a soulless shopping mall for all your essentials and town for socialising. Taxis home can go straight through the Phoenix Park and so are reasonably priced. The Nitelink is always a good option too IMO.

Seriously, you're renting. Make the most of it and don't rent somewhere that steals 2 hours more from your working day.

Thanks so much for all the replies. Very helpful. I've knocked Terenure on the head...not for me.

I'll keep looking. Some good suggestions.

Won't be getting a scooter (!!) Too chicken. But will keep on daft and see whats out there!

    Cheers again,

    Audders
