Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

M17x is a bit more powerful (in gaming terms, i.e. a 9800MGT > HD3870) but much more expensive.

M17 is better value and based on the newer Montineva platform (ie supports DDR3 ram etc) and has the option of a 64-bit OS on the config page.

If you're spending a shedload on a gaming notebook, also look at Dell M1730 and Asus W90 (Crossfire 4870s!!)

Yep, insane alright, the mobility 3870 is barely in any laptops and they've just jumped straight ahead to the mobility HD4000 series. They officially announced them all the other day.

As well as the high-end (HD4850 and 4870) there will be a range of low-med cards too. Ati are really looking to capitalise on the Nvidia fiasco.

Do the hd mobility cards have the built in sound card? I thought it was a fairly pointless feature when I heard it announced for the 2000 series but it turns out I'm gonna end up using it when I build my next pc so it's pretty handy. Hope the mobility 4000 series goes well, nvidia seem to have a stranglehold of the laptop market at the moment.

No, I don't think they do have that feature in the mobility cards.

OP, for a gaming notebook on a lower budget, keep an eye out for this:
    http://www.anvika.com/computing/product.asp?PNO=MSI14005

Not launched yet so no idea about quality/performance etc, but that's a good price for a 17" notebook with high-end GPU (ATI HD 4850) and blu-ray.

There will be another model even cheaper. It will have the same GPU but just a lower CPU (2.4Ghz), no blu-ray and 1680x1050 res. It will probably be under a grand.
