Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So I have tightVNC setup to control my HTPC which is connected to the TV. I was wondering is it possible to set up some sort of virtual desktop that i can control with tightVNC so that I can do stuff on the HTPC while the family are watching a movie on the TV.

    Thanks

    Interesting.

I'm not sure, but I think you may be able to do what you want with something like MaxiVista or ZoneOS, the latter being free for personal use. Found them here, and here's another thread which doesn't offer much info.

It looks like you might be able to fullscreen an app on the server and still do stuff on the client. I don't know for sure though, and I don't have the opportunity to try it out.

If you do give one of these a whirl, let us know how it goes cos I'd be interested for future reference.

Unfortunately they don't acheive what I was hoping for, but thanks for trying.

What I've done is connect my HD4650 to the telly using the vga output and the hdmi output and extended the desktop across them. This gives me 2 displays which I can control via tightvnc. This does not really work well either because when I do anything on the extended display the movie playing on the first display will go from being fullscreen to being windowed.

So I need a completely independant desktop on the second display instead of an extended one but the catalyst software doesn't seem to support this with my graphics card so back to the drawing board.

Certain versions of Windows allow this, others don't. For example, Windows Server 2003 creates a new session (independent of the what's showing on the screen) for you when you connect remotely. From here, you can still connect on to the normal session, or just do whatever you need in this second shadow session.

this hack seems to enable such functionality on Windows XP/MCE
