Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I am 23 and want to go back to college. after my leaving cert I wwnt to college for 5/6 months. Dropped out. That was 2010. I now want to go back next sept 2015.
    I am currently working and not eaening alot plus Im living at home trying to save. However funds are tight as my father is the only parent working.
    Do all grants get means tested? & what help is out there for me? I wont be able to go back to college if i dont get some sort of a grant! and because I am working im not entitled to btea but what about susi? Am i eliglible to be a 2nd chance feee fees?

    Hi,
    All students grants from SUSI are means tested and if you are living at home with your parents, their income is reckonable.
    If you attended your course in 2010 and you want to attend a course at the same level in 2015, you will have to do a repeat period of study for the 5/6 months.

    You will only qualify for second chance in 2016 after you have had a 5 year gap (11,12,13,14,15).

    You should look at the SUSI website for more information and they have a reckoner, you can input some details that may tell you if you would be eligible on your current household income.

    Please note that there is an increase due next year in the student contribution of €250 to €3000 and you might want to consider postponing for a year to become a second chance if you cannot afford the contribution and/or fees for the period of study if you qualify.
