Hi, i am thinking of finishing 1st year and transferring to a similar course next year into 2nd year but in a different college. Would my grant be affected by this?

I did this last year, it won't affect your grant as long as you're progressing into second year. It helps if you know for definite whether you can transfer before renewing your grant for next year though, I had a fair bit of hassle changing it after that.
