Is the vodafone the only Irish network that provide a femtocell to boost mobile phone in houses?

Any other legal non proprietary work arounds?

In the UK, I'm pretty sure other networks than Vodafone have them but not here. O2 in the UK have a smartphone app that lets you use your mobile number over wifi http://www.o2.co.uk/apps/tu-go.

That's pretty neat, would seem the traditional pricing model is going out the window. No wonder they are slow to introduce these things into Ireland given they will reduce revenue streams.

UPC have something similar for their landline phone service (http://www.upc.ie/bundles/broadband-phone/horizon-phone-app/), where you can make calls anywhere you have WiFi Internet access as if you were phoning locally from your home. Doesn't matter where in the world you are. There are constant rumours of UPC setting up a mobile service too, so it could be that they'd extend that app to their mobile offering too, which would be great.

Thats the only legal one. The operators own the licences to transmit in their respective spectrums. Its not like wifi, its heavily regulated.

Thanks I'll give this a go and see how I get on. I have a payg sim so next thing to do is check out the reception. If no better than what we currently have then get the sure signal booster.

Is this like a wifi router in that there could still be black spots in the house if it is placed downstairs in a corner then the far corner upstairs might not be able to pick up the signal?
