Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No official squad has been announced yet. Joe Kernan is waiting for all the club finals to be over, before he knows who can and can't commit to the series. I heard there are over 40 players on the extended panel doing try outs, but it will be another couple of weeks before the official panel is announced.

Pity we won't be seeing this beast again ::eek:

The one off test throws-in at 7:00pm on Saturday the 21st of November at Croke Park. RTE will broadcast the game.

The shinty versus Scotland will be on at 4:30 the same day in Croke Park. Not sure if that's being broadcast too.

Hopefully the game is a success because I love this series.

Can't ever get enough of seeing Dubs lifting silverware in Croker ! :D

Hoping a good strong panel is named with mainly players who were involved in the business end of the championship.
With all due respect but a team full of lads knocked out in the qualifiers just won't cut it. It'll just be a repeat of last year.

A real pity we don't have Tuohy and Hanley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,266 ✭✭✭big_drive

One of the stronger squads in a few years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

strong squad, theres a few notable absentees -

Moran, Maher, Crowley, Enright and O Donoghue from Kerry.

Flynn and Cian O Sullivan Dublin.

can understand however why most of the above are missing, mainly due to injuries.

Going to this for 1st time looking forward to it. Good panel.

Why are none of the Australian based players not included? Injuries?

I was in Brisbane during the Summer and saw Hanley play first hand, he was the best player by a mile. Some athlete.

Is that really considered a strong Irish squad? Haven't seen a whole lot of championship over the last couple of years but outside of Brogan, McManus and Connolly there's not a whole lot of proven scoring threat from what I can see.

What sort of players are Brennan, McDonald and Doyle? I barely even recognise the names TBH.

The Australian squad is very strong but they don't have Naitanui this year which is definitely a boost to Ireland's chances. I think they got three or four scores directly from his utter domination of ball ups last year.

its a very strong team with 5 current all-star forwards, while there are a few notable players absent (O Donoghue, Moran, Flynn, Cian O Sullivan and a few more) its a strong as it gets being realistic.

McBrearty, Kerrigan are both very lethal forwards and then you have the likes of Harte, Keegan and Jack Mc that are brilliant at attacking from half back line.

Its as strong a panel as you'll get in the modern game. Priority for a lot of players this time of the year is the club championship. Or else recovery for next year for those who've had a long year of games

The match will be on RTE 2.

Just had a gander around the most prominent Australian news sites and this game has nobody's attention over there!

Ireland off to a great start 18-6 up after 14 mins

Say what you want about the game itself, but it's still pretty cool to see the likes of Aidan O'Shea, Diarmuid Connolly, Conor McManus, Lee Keegan, Philly McMahon, etc. all playing together on the same team. Kind of weird dream team scenario.

Ireland playing well at the moment there foot passing has been very crisp and there playing sensibly and actually taking there marks rather than just playing like gaelic. Fielding has been excellent from Ireland aswell.

I'm not a huge fan of the game but enjoy watching it as a once off thing.

Think it's better too as one game instead of dragging it out over 2 games with aggregate score

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,266 ✭✭✭big_drive

The Dublin players look very sharp to be fair.

Connollys ball skills are great to watch

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

O Shea and Brogan outstanding thus far. Irish footpassing very good.

Ireland playing very well.Skill level has been high from Ireland so far, the fielding in particular has been outstanding.

The physical condition of the Irish players is unrecognisable to that of the players in the 2000s (especially the massacre in 2005). Much more able to stand up physically to the Aussies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

are they using a standard O'Neills ball? maybe its how I'm not used to all the kick passing but the ball looks lighter to me, travelling further than usual

True, they picked good footballlers all the same plenty of guys who can take a score on their own and they are going for it, very few of the very hard working players that county teams have.

O'Shea is the man of the match, hopefully he'll keep it up for the full game.

Jaysus Cadogan flattened the Aussie trying to hit him off the ball.

    Great 3rd quarter from Australia.

Only 11 in it now.Ireland have got defensive in the 3rd quarter they really need to push on and finish the game off at the start of the final quarter.

No.The ball is lighter than a Gaelic Football.

I think in the past Ireland struggled with it as they used to over kick the ball and it would fly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,631 ✭✭✭Dirty Dingus McGee

I love Tadgh Kennelly's half Kerry half Aussie accent.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,441 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

They're sitting back far too much alright. Morgan's kickouts were poor that quarter too. The kick passing has been a bit lazy as well. Ball dropping short can put a player under massive pressure especially in his own half.

Glorious goal chance fluffed by Australia, Ireland are struggling.
