Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, fashion is always changing, and it inevitably comes back around again and again...
What 'fashion trends' do you hope NEVER make a reappearance?
What did you wear that makes you cringe now?
And, do you like any aspects of retro fashion now?

I love the 50's style dresses at the moment... I've bought 3 in the last short while :)

On the other hand, I hope XworX jeans never, ever, EVER make a reappearance! :D

Shell suit in the most horrendous colours and acid wash jeans. Sony walkmans and also nearly everyone had a quiff of some kind. Hi-Tech runners!

In the late '80's, blouses with bows like Maggie T.
Dresses with shoulder pads AND peplums, hilarious when you're 5ft nothing!
    Corduroy jeans.

I remember in the early 90s wearing dungarees and awful pink and flowery leggings. I hated wearing them but was forced to.

Now I see that they are all back in fashion and it just brings back horrible flashbacks. They are brutal and so unflattering.

I remember wearing and loving a necklace which had a plastic pacifier on it in fluorescent yellow. They were pretty cool at the time :)

I still have the Walkman somewhere in the loft. I never owned shell suit, but I remember the crackle of static as people walked by. :D

    Duffle Coats.

We wore them to school in our primary school days, and I used to love mine.
But seeing people wearing them nowadays-I dunno what it is about them but they look kinda shabby.

Siúl leat, siúl leat, le dóchas i do chroí, is ní shiúlfaidh tú i d'aonar go deo.

Does anyone remember Kangaroos, shoes with pockets, do they even make those anymore?

Yes! They do indeed make them. Very flashy colours these days. I got an orange and blue pair with zip about 2 years ago on eBay.

I do like the 20's - 50's retro look, but lads trying to pull it off with beards that look vaguely Edwardian or Victorian and girls plastered with large tats I dunno.

Have to say shell suits for me are the one thing I used to love that I now can't believe I wore, Dear God !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭madmaggie

I had shoulder pads, ruffles and peplums, sometimes all on the one dress. At 5 ft nothing and size 8 you could hardly see me in all the material. Bat wing jumpers, I was lost in them, but with my ski pants, sure I was lovely. :P

4 of those tops are ok, the shoes fine too, its just the trousers which nobody in Ireland wore anyway.

The Madchester look from 89-92 flares hoody tops, think Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets was the best look ever IMO

I like the Bottega Veneta leather jackets of yore. I had a green type like that once.
I left it open when out and felt like the business.

Not allowed to post http links as im a new user. I love old retro clothes, anything retro, not out of any hipster mentality like most of you drones. I just know that older sensibilities and trends made sense - comfort, practicality, style, class - none of which can be found today. I am retro.

I like analogue music synths especially, like the new Korg ones and the old Roland 808's and 303's - I like vinyl too - invariant, beautiful sound, freedom.
