Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys I've been a sufferer of psoriasis for about 4 years diagnosed 2 years ago and it's just taking its toll this week it went crazy and ended up in a+e on antibiotics. My gp mentioned going for UV treatment and he will discuss it with me next week but I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to get a medical card as it is a long term illness and as you know if you suffer from it the medicines are extremely expensive And as a student I just can't afford it anymore. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be great :)

Medical cards are given on means, not on medical conditions. Your medical expenses, doctor's fees and prescribed medicines, will be taken into consideration when calculating your relevant income but if it is still over the limit you won't get a card, regardless of what illness you suffer from.

Is there not some way that gps can give them at discretion like I don't think the has will care If I'm a student travelling to college with a job they won't take the expense of a car into account :/ my gp is sound enough and said he will look into it but was just wondering if anyone else had come across this before :)

GPs don't give out medical cards. They have a very limited discretion to extend an existing medical card while it is being reviewed. If you apply on hardship grounds your GP can support that by saying how severe your condition is, how often you have to visit and what medication is required but the HSE will make the decision. Reasonable travelling expenses to work are included in the reckoning.

Get the form, get it filled in and send it away as soon as possible with the supporting information they ask for. Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send because they have a habit of going astray.

Psoriasis is not covered under the Long Term Illness scheme. I've never heard of anyone getting a medical card for psoriasis but worth a try, I suppose.
