Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Might have to do this or a similar journey. The Route Planner on the site recommends Westport -> Sligo then the Derry bus from there to Letterkenny.
However you can't book to Letterkenny online (arghh at their online setup)
And as the fares for the 2nd journey aren't actually listed, would it be safe going with the figures listed on: http://www.busfare.co.uk/cgi-bin/Eireann.isa/EXEC ?

Am i able to buy a through ticket on the bus for Westport -> Letterkenny or *gulp* must i end up buying separate tickets?

That bus fares site lists a "864b Sligo - Derry" service including a Westport stop but doesn't seem to exist on the buseireann site? any ideas what differences in running times/etc compared to the regular "864" service are, if it even exists?
The 864 service on that site seems to be the 64 as listed on the bus eireann site... http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1315489192-64.pdf

Any help with any of the above is greatly appreciated! thanks! :)

There is the option of via Dublin/Dublin Airport, but I wouldn't do it unless I was stuck. :pac:

I've only noticed this mentioned recently. It seems to be allowing me to do it. Do you want to try again?

Instead of route 64 you need to check 864, etc. Route numbers are gradually being reorganised.

You should be able to buy one ticket for €38.95 (it might be 5% more on the bus). Fares as listed on the "Buy your ticket" part of http://www.buseireann.ie/

864b appear o refer to one leg of the 864 route.

The main options would appear to be train to Claremorris and route 64 and/or 480 to Letterkenny.

Bus 440 to Knock, then 64.

Bus 456 to Castlebar, then 66 to Charlestown & 64. Some route 66 seem to go through Westport though.

You can also connect with a Feda bus in Claremorris or Charlestown which might be a cheaper and quicker way of getting from either destination to Letterkenny (or at least it was in my day...)

    Thanks both for the help!

Actually might be going to Strabane, 25 min bus from Letterkenny.

Looking at the timetables though it might be more worth my while to skip the Letterkenny part and *gulp* go Westport -> Dublin, then the Derry bus which passes through Strabane. Can't book cross-border tickets online....is it possible to buy one ticket from a bus driver for this trip?

If you hadn't added the bit about Strabane, I'd have said that combining BE (Westport - Sligo) and Bus Feda (Sligo - Letterkenny) is another option. (No idea how the fares stack up though).

If it's all on BÉ, then I think you can by one ticket for the trip - from the driver. But the only catch may be that it's a ticket for the most direct route, which may not be via Dublin (even though the best one is in some cases).

This would be a bit extreme. You'd be talking the guts of a 7 hour journey.

Have you considered asking in the Mayo forum to see if someone could give you a lift from Westport to Letterkenny/Derry?

Is this a once-off trip or something you will have to do more often?
