Peugeot 508 2.0 HDI radio / sat nav not working

I have a 508 estate 2.0 2011 with full screen Radio Sat nav etc.

Symptom is that after about half an hour the screen flickers and dies and within about thirty seconds of that the radio stops functioning. Then the system randomly stops and starts.

I have taken it to Peugeot and had codes read and they say there is nothing stored. They suggest a software update at a cost of about 40 to see if that will help.

I am struggling to see how something that worked, now needs a software update to work again- it seems they don't really know what is wrong.

The TSBs that they looked at lean towards having to change the main RT6 unit, that is the cd player/ radio thing behind the main control panel rather than the screen itself.

I am faced with either paying for a software upgrade with no way of knowing if it will be any use, then buying a new CD changer thingy

or trying to get somebody to see if there is something wrong with the radio unit, which is a Magneti Marelli MM-Btel RNG2 CEM 00, CD 6373 s/n WND01645C, part no: 96 782 764 80

or chancing my arm with a second hand one like this one on ebay

but this one is made by continental and does not seem to support sat nav, or is the sat nav unit separate anyway. I also do not know if it is just plug and play or whether I need to get an alternative unit coded to the car.

I know there are some real Peugeot experts on here such as ROW, who might be able to shed some light on it please.

I find it hard to believe that I need anything other than a competent repairer as the unit works for a bit.

I had posted it in repairs for more people to see it, but the mods have moved it to audio.

To me that sounds like a hardware problem is more likely than software. So a bad solder joint or chafed wiring or something. Do you notice if heat has anything to do with it?

There is a user here that repairs radios iamthemanwork maybe he has seen this issue before.

I wonder if it's overheating due to a faulty fan.

Its worth doing a software update first before looking at the hardware.
Seems common enough among the early 508 satnavs....

In messing around with it last night I managed to break one of the leads going into the unit.

Its the 4 pin lead to the back of the unit just beside the video lead and the individual grey, white and blue leads.

Is the 4 pin plug on the end of the lead available anywhere do you know? or can I buy some harness?

I couldn't release it and now have one wire hanging out the back of the plug that then goes onto a 4 pin socket on the radio iteslf

Wire repaired but unit now not making any response at all.

Do you need to code replacement units? Do I need main unit and mouse unit and front plate or just the main unit?

Haven't done with these but i know the older units needed coding.
Can't see why the mouse unit would need coding
Did you replace the full head unit..?

I bought alternative head unit , fascia and mouse and it works. But there is a warning beep every five seconds or so.

I have booked it in with Mongey Plunkett for coding and should be done then

No Problem...Hope you get sorted.
The beeping warning is annoying but once they input your vin number into the headunit config if should stop....:)
