So, now that HTC has unveiled the Desire HD and Z. IS there any preferance now for a Samsung Galaxy, Desire HD or Z or Other In both Hardware, functionality and over Specs....I know this is an Android thread, but can another really compete?? iPhone.

Granted the new HD and Z are not released in shops, but the current Desire is basically out of stock

Desire HD for the time being. I'm hearing of a new Motorola handset coming out with a 2GHz Dual core OMAP monster with 1GB of RAM but that's only a rumour.

the Desire HD is way to big for me! 3.7" is pushing it for me. The Desire Z is interesting though, Even though i'm not mad on physical keyboards:p

I will go with Samsung Galaxy :)

Not very fair to compare the Galaxy with two phones that aren't released yet.

    I want that one

I chose the Galaxy S because thats what I have ATM. The other phones aren't available anywhere. And with HTC's useless supply chain, I'll stay with Samsung. Because no doubt there will be even more shortages!
    Nice phones amateur company.

the shortage of Desires is due to Samsung not being able to make enough screens. The Desire HD does not use a Samsung screen (uses SLCD) so it should be easier to stock.

Also, Meteor confirming that they will have the Desire HD. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf#!/meteor?v=wall&story_fbid=154278141262897&ref=notif&notif_t=feed_comment

    Cheers Mitch

They will have it in Oct / Nov

It will be interesting to follow that and see how it pans out?

Oh haven't they swapped the screens on the current Desire with SLCD's and theres still none to be had anywhere? Not looking good?

Stupid work won't let me onto that facebook book page.

Anyone feel like posting the actual info on it.

In terms of this thread, I think I'll be going for the Desire HD when it comes out. Depends on pricing/reviews/ and how the size feels as well. It may be a tad big for my liking.

It was Samsung, they couldn't supply enough AMOLED screens. :P ;)

I'm guessing we can use the HTC HD2 as a rough comparision in size to that of the Desire HD???? Granted the HD2 runs Windows Mobile OS and the Desire HD will be running FroYo 2.2. The current Desires running FroYo it is a stable running enviroment

    Desire HD 11.8x68x123mm @164g
    HD2 11x67x120.5mm @157g

Obviously the HD, purely based on the screen size *drool*

EDIT: htcsense.com is nifty enough, though Samsung already has samsungdive.com.
HOWEVER for some reason Ireland isn't supported for Mobile Tracking, which is ****e (you can do better Samsung!!)

I would love to have the Z, I much prefer a hardware keyboard, but the 800mhz processor is standing in the way. I think I'll be getting the HD. I have a SGS, but the glass has shattered all along the bottom, and although useable it's only being held together with a cheap screen protector. I'll be replacing it asap.

The thing that people fail to mention is that the Galaxy's build quality is ****. It feels like it is made from the little yellow eggs inside kinder surprise.

I like to keep my phone for a year & then upgrade it... I couldn't imagine a Galaxy lasting that long...

    It won't...

I've had two. The first, after 7 days fell out of my shirt pocket as I was bending over to undo my boots. It fell and landed vertically from a height of about 2 to 2 1/2 feet. The display went completely multicoloured showing base colours only, but it was intermittant. Thankfully the shop replaced.

The second, after a month was lying on the ground (sans case, because I had put it down and couldn't find it), beside my wallet and such when I was changing after work. I dropped my keys beside it, I missed the ground and hit the phone. I guess the point of one key hit the very edge where the home button is. The entire lower portion of the glass is cracked with three or four long cracks running up the screen.

I've dropped nokia and sony ericssons dozens and dozens of times over the years and never had such trouble.

Why would having a brand new 2nd gen 45nm processor get in the way?

Why would having a brand new 2nd gen 45nm processor get in the way?

It depends on the difference it has with the processor in the HD and there's the fact it has less RAM as well.

Got it. I'll make sure and not drop the phone, or drop things on it.
I'd imagine treating any of the high end phones in this way would produce similar results.

Its a lie. If they wouldnt be able to make enough screens the Galaxy phones and other amoled screen phones would be out of stock too.

Its been reported that Samsung has made a black deal to cut of htc's supply of screens in order to gain the upper hand in the market.

Right now their using SLCD from Sony and since HTC took on a crew of managers from SE i dont think that will be a problem. Amateur? really get your facts right

Whats a lie? Hard to understand your poor grasp of the english language? There is no shortage of galaxy or any other samsung galaxy SAMOLED screens or phones?

So the Desire is readily available now with a SLCD screen? Strange,All i read on boards is that there is no desires available anywhere? Now that is a fact!

This was all over the tech blogs a couple of months ago. Just before the Galaxy was released. They were reporting that Samsung were making a big play in the Android market and were going to limit HTC's access to their screen production - because they planned to use most of their manufacturing capacity for their own devices.

If you are getting your news from boards, you should reconsider your views. Most people on here read news on other sites and then twist it to fit with their own arguments...

I suggest doing a search on some of the more popular tech news sites, the stories are there, but I'm not gonna do the work for you...

Sorry was half asleep writing that. I said if Samsung was struggling to make amoled screens. Their own phones would suffer too like the galaxy would be out on short. But its not

Dude u gotta be kidding. There even has been several threads about the new batch concerning the screen and the hboot version on the phone which is required for rooting.

No. If it was, it would probably say HTC Desire HD. I think there is a clue in the title: HTC HD2.

Its a windows mobile thats been on the market for a few months...

Yes exactly, i agree, but if you were supplying a third party with your product, you come first they some second!
Now If I were HTC and I signed a supply contract wit a rival firm, Clauses 1.1 would clearly state that if they could not meet agreed supply demand then they are liable for a quick and alternative supply of a similar if not better product!
Clearly HTC had not this clause in place. They were caught doing the 100m hurdles with their jocks around their ankles! Hence Amateur status! IMO!

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but ths Desire was an AMOLED screen whereas the Galaxy S has the far superior SAMOLED screen?

Thats really cool! Kudos on smugness! But it dsoesn't state that the black arts were involved like you stated!

Yes maybe be a trickle of a supply with one pallet of phones making it here but its far from free flow!
And dude dont call me dude! I dont surf,I live by the coast and wished I could surf! Until then I cannot take up the title of DUDE! ;)

Cant see what your trying to post? Pictures?

Anyway as your not doing this fairly, comparing a Gen 2 Desire against a Gen 1 Galaxy S!

So now I raise you with a Samsung Galaxy i 9200 S2, bet ya thats difficult to swallow.

This vote should have included this phone!

And as they say thats game, set & match!

    I thank you and goodnight!

The SGS GPU still is roughly twice as powerful as the new Desires. It really is a beast of a phone, although there really isn't anything out there to take advantage of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭Bugzy

yes the GPU better but processor is miles behind.

its hardly a 2nd gen phone? it has a slightly better processor than the previous desire. its just an upped screen version with new sense on it.

I'd say the phones are so similar it will come down to size and weight. Personally I like that about the galaxy.
I've a zagg shield on the back which adds a lot of grip, making it perfect for me.

I wouldn't be so confident given the desires use of standard glass versus the gorilla glass on the SGS.

what has glass has to do with this? we were talking about the grip in your hand which..

unless your an odd one and hold your phone upside down it shouldnt matter.

So, I bit the bullet and got a Galaxy, I find it quick, free Apps and has some of the same popular Apps as the iPhone. The screen is amazing and the build quality doesn't feel sh**e as some have commented here. battery life is Ok, considering the size of the screen, once you control the use of the WiFi etc. I am getting all my mails from various accounts and I'm happy so far. Vodafone IE said they may not get Desire HD till close to Christmas or even after

Still confused but have decided to go with the HTC. Seems to be more customisable and do like the sturdy construction. Suposed to be a flash with camera but can not see it being effective.

    @batman2000

most people would agree that samsung is nothing compared to HTC's build quality.

tbh if i was to say its just as bad as nokia. they wont fall apart (hopefully) or anything but the plastic bits and all will get loose and etc.

you would have to live with a htc phone to understand.

The build quality of the Desire feels great in my hand, and I've dropped it a few times with no damage, and my old original iPhone was thrown across the room against the wall in frustration once (stupid, I know), and worked perfectly after with no cracks on the glass or anything (somehow)

The single LED flash on the old Desire is pretty effective, so I'd imagine the Desire HD's dual LED flash would do a great job
