Not that far away now really, Faldo will be making his final appearance and still disappointing to hear Tom Watson will be bidding us farewell also, an amazing player still at 65, my heart nearly bled out in 2009 when he faltered, great the R&A have extended him a special invite to make his final appearance at St Andrews...

Should be interesting this year, will Rory defend?

McIlroy should win by at least 6. Course specialist

I think Tiger will have something to say about that, he's done nicely at SA in the past

Just a matter of 3 months and a US Open to go before it! :D

Can't wait.. and being at St Andrews just makes it all the better. Agree that Tiger will be in contention. Also hope Lowry sorts out his putting before then as I really fancied him to do well at this year's Open.

Interesting article in the Telegraph about the expected welcome which will be given to Faldo and Watson on their final Open appearance ...

Sir Nick Faldo should be honoured in his final Open round

England’s finest golfer is expecting to be eclipsed by Tom Watson at their final Open – he deserves better

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/golf/11539803/Sir-Nick-Faldo-should-be-honoured-in-his-final-Open-round.html

Of course the question will be moot if they both make the cut, play together on Sunday and walk up the 18th together ;)

When you're stuck indoors with a fuct up knee, it's never too early to kickstart The Open, sure the Irish Open thread was started last year!:pac:

That is a shame, I think he's annoying on US commentary but respect to the man for his playing record, great achievement in 6 majors

Growing up, Faldo was my idol.

    My father's idol was Watson.
My father tried to mimic Watson's swing. I tried to copy Faldo's.
There's a lovely symmetry to that for me personally.

8 opens between Watson and Faldo, possibly they'll be paired together.

Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't turn out to be Toms last open after all, still capable of picking up a 4th senior Open and getting a place the following year.

Unfortunately this years Seniors is a Sunningdale though.

Funny there's only 8 years between them but they are part of different eras.

They would have been in the same era had Watson not had the yips for such a long time, still great off the tee and with his irons and short game but yips killed him too early, suppose same could be said to a degree for Faldo...

They had a overlap period but not while both were at their peak unfortunately. Both have actually had top 10's while the other won the Open. Watsons longevity is amazing though considering his putting woes and length of modern courses. A true legend of the game, 8 majors with just the PGA missing from the career slam.

Seen Faldo on TV the other day chatting with Speith, and they agreed to play a practice round at the Open. Also mentioned Fanny will be back on the bag for the Pro-Am

Im fairly sure he already said a few months back that that is the plan!

** Or at least that he was considering it anyway.

I think he was responding to speculation on the matter and said he hadn't even thought about it yet, this was on the podcast from Second Captains or something I think.

Ya i think he said that Jack/Arnie and all the greats went out at St Andrews so it would be nice to do something similar.

He was on off the ball I think when they announced the open would be gone from the Beeb next year. said he had another bit in him but the whole nostalgia thing about bowing out @ the home of golf and the fact no more golf on Beeb, I think will mean this will be his last one :(
