Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Stylish titles alright - puts me in mind of the Wire opening sequence.

I'm looking forward to this - have the auld TV box set to record the whole series.

New Crime Drama on TG4 Tonight at 21:30

TV crime correspondent Cathal Mac Iarnáin is the terrier of the newsroom. He'll stop at nothing to dig out the truth behind every story, regardless of who it hurts. In four hard-hitting episodes that explore the many ills of Irish society, Mac Iarnáin chases stories of health service neglect, boy-racer mindlessness, internet paedophilia and Garda corruption.

Right now, Mac Iarnáin is feeling alienated: though a communicator by profession, he lacks that gift at home. His teenage kids are on too long a leash and he's not happy that his wife Mairéad is thinking of returning to work. But he hides his chauvinism well.

Work too is no picnic. Cathal's new boss Deirdre is his worst nightmare: she's by-the-book, pushy and bugs the hell out of him. With years of experience under his belt, Cathal the maverick reckons he's untouchable. But she's been to management school...

Each news story Cathal pursues is a gruesome tale of carnage: five young lives smashed to bits in a night-time game of chicken; a Mexican stand-off between Gardaí and a troubled youth wielding a shotgun; a teenager suffering chronic neglect at the hands of her parents; and a naïve young girl unwittingly exploited through internet chatrooms...

Always on the road with work and out of touch at home, Cathal's belief in the objective truth crumbles in a world full of messy human half-truths which lead him all the way back home...

True Blood and The Sapranos also, TG4 must be missing their HBO serials.

Sorry Mods can we merge these.

Also it got good reviews on The View Last Night.

I've been looking forward to this since TG4 announced it in August - they're going all out with the advertisement for it as well it seems.

Tá súil agam go mbeidh sé go maith...

    Corp + Anam thread's merged!

Glad there was a thread on this; forgot to start one up myself.

I actually read the scripts to all four episodes last summer, and they were fantastic so I was really looking forward to this. Decent opening episode, though it wasn't even my favourite when I read them. Tought the best scene by far was the argument between Cathal and his wife towards the end; the two best actors in the show in Diarmaid De Faoite and Maria Doyle Kennedy squaring off.

I'm really glad TG4 comissioned this, its an edgy drama that they've needed for a while.

    Not bad.
A few nice threads running through it.
The shopping centre in Limerick looked strangely like Eyre square shopping centre. ;)

    Ha! Thought so too!

I liked the music accompanying the opening credits.

    Decent story too.

Nice opening episode. It will be interesting to see where the wife's story goes, I was sure it was his father. The girls' story will also be interesting. Looking forward to Episode 2.

While I try not to read the subtitles I did find Maire Doyle Kennedy hard to understand.

    On now on TG4.

Don't worry, it'll be on the TG4 player soon, so you'll be able to watch it then.

Really good episode this week I thought, it picked up nicely from last week where we were getting to know the characters. Looking forward to next week!

They should all be still on the TG4 player if you're looking for them.

When I read the scripts, episode 3 was my favourite, and the finished product ended up the same. Last Wednesday's episode was the best so far I thought.

Úna (plays the daughter in the show) was fantastic I thought.

    Only 4 episodes total.
Doubt there'll be a second series either - TG4 usually just keep these things as a mini-series rather than dragging them out to death.
If you like TG4 stuff though, I'd highly recommend you check out An Crisis and Rásaí na Gaillimhe next time they're on the player - quality comedy series' from last year...

This is a series that passed me by last year however I saw that it was nominated for some awards at the IFTAs last week.

Looking through this thread it seems like a good watch.

It is been repeated again starting tomorrow night at 5 minutes past midnight. (Thur night/Fri morning)

I planning on catching it this time.

Thanks for the heads up, Brian T. Been meaning to do the same. Met Darach Mac Con Iomaire at an event and the show sounded interesting but there's only one episode up on tg4 player so it's good to hear it's being repeated.

Took a long time for the 2nd series to arrive didn't it? Just looking back and the posts about the 1st series were from over 3 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭ooter

Does anyone know if series 1 is available to buy on DVD?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,850 ✭✭✭FouxDaFaFa

That first episode was so tense, it felt like a series finale and it's only the first one out.

I thought they did a really good job with it and am looking forward to the rest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭Average-Ro

Yep, really enjoyed that first episode back.

I was a little worried that season 2 just wouldn't be as good as season 1, but that was excellent.

TV shows are not age rated until they appear on DVD. TG4 did introduce a rating system similar to RTÉ's not sure if they still do.

Had lived abroad so missed out on this but a friend mentioned it and passed it onto me at Christmas.

Only after getting around to watching the first series this week. Flew through it, really good drama with excellent story lines that didn't sway away from the harsh realities of modern society - ie
    the internet paedophilia story
    and
    the HSE covering its tracks
    .

It's probably the best Irish made show I've seen in quite a while - it's a real shame that it's not getting the attention it deserves. Quite outrageous the sums of money spent on Rebellion when you've got shows like this being produced out west on a minimal budget.
Looking forward to watching the second series now, does it pick up from the end of series one? Bit of a cliffhanger there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,730 ✭✭✭brian_t

It's currently being repeated on Wednesday nights.

Season 1 Episode 2 is on this week.
