Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Don't worry, Crean's reputation is safe - there's nothing Charlie could do to tarnish it.

What amazes me is how he managed to get this commissioned, after the breathtakingly awful series he made in the Arctic. And this is what we're threatened and cajoled into paying the TV licence fee for . . .

I dunno, RTE do these type of documentaries pretty well I think - now if only Charlie could keep quiet so we could admire the Antarctic scenery (crying out for the HD treatment BTW).

Tom Crean was some man, one of the great explorers.

I'm a bit gutted I missed this, hopefully it should be on the RTE Player.

The story of Tom Crean is just astonishing. He is a giant among men.
I would love to see that Bear Grylls tosser,do what Tom did, with the resources Tom had,and see where it gets him.

People like Tom Crean only come around once in a blue moon, and for me,I think we should celebrate his memory more often, but that's just me like ...

I thought overall it was a nicely made tribute to one of the greatest Irishmen ever. Looking forward to next week's one.

This thread is much nicer than the one in the Documentries forum.

This thread is much nicer than the one in the Documentries forum.

I'm no mouthpiece for RTE, but I felt it was an effective and well-made documentary that was very much in keeping with their public service remit.

It wouldn't be made by TV3; it dealt with the story of one of the most fascinating Irishmen of modern history; and it used the experiences of a well-known broadcaster (however self-pitying he occasionally came across) to try and relay some of the massive effort required in making that epic journey.

It fulfilled (in my opinion) what RTE should be doing more of. Less of the All-Ireland Talent Show, more interesting programmes such as this.

Watched it, and thought it wasn't bad. BBC are doing a show called Scotts Hut on BBC 2 Sunday night, I think the BBC are impossible to beat at this sort of thing
