Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Laptop to Tv through scart

    Hope I'm asking this in the right place. I've read up on it but still not clear. Can anybody here tell me if I can connect a laptop to a tv that only has scart connections and those red white and yellow push in connections (dont know correct term) The laptop has vga and s video connections.

    get a svideo to scart cable... that should solve your problem

    Thanks for your reply. Have you ever seen this operating and if so what was the picture quality. Some of the research I've done suggests this would only produce a black and white picture.

    If your tv is s-video compatible then the standard s-video to scart cable bought in maplins/etc will work fine. This is because it uses the 6 pin s-video connection from the laptop and all works well.

    But if your tv is not s-video compatible, as much older tv's tend to be, then you will need a 7 pin s-video to scart cable. These can be bought online (I bought one from the USA) and work fine.

    I have used both cables to connect laptops to tv and they work well. I odn't have a HD TV so I cannot compare the quality but compared to standard TV it looks and sounds OK.

    Quality wise its okay, video is fine (about as good as DVD I'd say) but the desktop can often look a bit poor.

    I used to use a Philips wireless SCART transmitter to transfer the S-video from my PC to the TV across the house. The receiver sent a signal back to the transmitter for a remote and I found it would modulate my wireless mouse if I sat it on top of the receiver. Made it a nice media centre back in the day as I could browse my mp3 collection from the living room.

    I've posted 40 gazillion times on my experiences with s-video to SCART on this forum (ok, maybe slight exaggeration).

    I haven't looked at this stuff in a long while, but do a search and it will return loads of info.

    go to peats maplins, get svideo to scart unit,it has 4 connectors,at rear 3rca in,one svideo in,3x2inchs size,price 5euro, or look in pound 2euro,shop, dvd /tv cable kit.set signal to in,picture is fine,upto to dvd video standard,720x576 resolution.GOOGLE pc to tv svideo .some hardware shops in talbot st near golden disks have tv/dvd copy kit ten euro,with svideo/rca cables 6ft and svideo scartunit included.set res tv output ,pal tv, to 720x576 otherwise picture will be bw ,and unviewable.NOTE to moderator
    There should be a sticky here on page 1 connect laptop/pc to tv .
