Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ohh, forgot it was leitrim, was looking for sligo lol.

Yeah is some steep ramps in the middle, actually flattens out well towards the top. I love thoe climbs though, there is such a sense of achievement at the top.

What about this little mountain : Lough Shore Road Climb : 1.2km @ 20% !

I don't think that's a road? There are a bunch of segments marked as bike segments that are actually people out hiking and so can be pretty insanely steep.

what would be the hardest climbs around kerry? preferably close to tralee

The short mountain is a doozy. It starts in Ballyard and climbs up to near the masts in the Slieve Mish. It's worse from the other side starting in Castlemaine.

There's some nice sharp short climbs near Tralee also - the farmer's bridge climb is fun and if you head out to Ballyroe, turn right at the formerly bad bend and there's a good climb that will bring you out onto the Doon road.

From the data it looked the person actually cycled it !

The segment is part of the "Fearmanagh" adventure race. That ascent is the "Magho Cliff Challenge" leg - run 1.2km down to the lake - kayak for 2km and then run back up the hill to your bike.

    update the tountinna entry.
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag1LJillBCzKdE02cWVwY2R6UFVvRUZZRVBjVlRPb2c#gid=0

Did Tountinna, the step, kilbane pass and the wall last week. Highlighted to me how subjective the whole process is. they were all mad hard for me !

Has anyone here cycled the bothareen which links Castlemaine to Blennerville, near Tralee? It runs north-south over the hill with the cluster of telecommunications masts. I've tried to do it twice from south to north, and could not cycle it entirely. Bike gears did not go low enough (cyclocross chainset 36, with 28 at the rear). The hill is murder. I'd like to know the gradient %, but I'm not on strava.

On that spreadsheet, what do the Grad ^2.5 and weight columns mean?

Gradient to the power of 2.5 to 'weigh' the steeper climbs.

Probably the below are all too short in distance to include but 3 savage little hills.

Nope. Still dont get it. I feel stupid.

Actually on the sheet it's: Gradient to the pwoer of 2.5 to weight the steeper climbs:)

It's just seve65s way of coming up with number based on the gradient of the hill to calculate difficulty. The steeper the gradient the bigger the number. He then multiplies this by the length of the climb and a subjective difficulty weight. ie good surface and steady 1, **** surface twisty and gradient keeps changing 1.3

I think I descended that a few years back. Crappy surface, grass in the middle and crazy steep iirc.

The way I went up to that climb is also a chunky climb. Road I think was decent, but a steep one.

    2.3km @ 10%

Ya it's definetly one you'd want to pick the right conditions, any moisture and you have a job stopping the back wheel from spinning! And you know you gotta get outa the saddle. Have done it twice and planning on doing again this Sunday. Its atleast 21-23% in sections.

that looks like a right toughie, no doubt, has to be over 200m ascent to get on my list (I had have some exclusion criteria ! otherwise list would be too big)

maybe I will do another list, lets say over 100m ascent and over 12% average

Headed up the Glendine climb in the slieve blooms today. Savage stuff. Decent stretch in the middle where the gradient on my Garmin stayed in the teens. Last KM averages 11%. Worth hunting out if you're in the area.

Goats path outside Bantry is pretty tough. Take the first right off the N71 at the Westlodge hotel and follow the road towards Gerahies. You will need a compact chainset and at least a 25 tooth rear to cope with the steep part. There is a well surfaced and somewhat technical decent into the scenic village of Kilcrohane.
