    Hi,
Just wondering if there are any suggestions for good off licenses in the D15 area. I tried the one in Tyrrelstown but I found their craft beers to be way overpriced and they had no specials on any of the craft or imported beers.

Any suggestions for a shop with a good selection and a few specials on beer and wine and perhaps a selection of hidden gems that are not sold in the main chains?

Molloy's on the Clonsilla road is good for craft beer and good deals too on occasions.

I haven't tried it yet myself, but I'm told the offie in Ashtown have a good selection of craft beers. No idea what the prices are like. I'd also endorse Molloys, they've always got a decent range of beers.

I heard the Ashtown off licence was closed last week. Haven't heard if it opened agIn yet.

+1. Molloys have an excellent selection of craft beers and are doing a great job of supporting the Irish craft beer industry. Well worth a browse is you're a beer geek.

For wine, O'Briens in the centre have a good selection.

I find that offie really good for craft beer; the prices are typical of the (full) prices elsewhere. From talking to the staff, they don't sell much but maintain a good selection, have tastings etc.

Supervalu in Blanch village has a good (but pretty static) selection, think it's 4 for €10 on most Irish beers now.

They've been running a buy any 6 craft beers get 15% off promotion for a couple of weeks now, I even picked up another 6 tonight. Craft beers tend to be more expensive than your usual stuff but they're not overpriced in there, quite reasonable I think, it's where I've been get all mine for a long time.

It seems to be gone alright - I was hoping it might just be a temporary closure, but it's not looking good for it opening again. It's a pity as they had a great selection of international and craft beers and some very knowledgeable beer-enthusiast staff. The selection in Superquinnvalu across the road is really poor by comparison.

I always wonder who the weirdos who hang around the craft beer section of Molloy's with me are, looks like its boardies!

I always use the Carpenter off licence for wine and the occasional craft beer (smallish selection though).

They always have good deals on wine though and quite a large selection.

Chill does very well in Ongar even though it has to compete with Dunnes fairly large selection right across the road. The staff are friendly too.

Tried Molloys – very good selection and some good deals. On the negative side the staff working when I visited didn’t seem to have any specialist knowledge, the price labeling and promotional posters were all over the place and the stock on shelves often didn’t reflect the signs over the shelves. The shop just seems a bit tired. It could be a great off licence if they kept the selection and had some more proactive management.

I was there last week and the guy serving us commented on one of the beers my husband was buying and told him that a similar one would be coming in later in the week. He definitely knew his stuff. It's not always like that but I thought that particular guy was great.

there is a big variance in the staff, some really care, others don't.

id love a wider selection of beers in the local pubs too.

There is 1 guy there I talk to about beers seems to know his stuff.
Not to the levels of other specialist off licence store but still good.

Anyone know if Molloys in Clonsilla have a decent selection of craft beers? Hoping to put together a gift pack for a friend so I want to get a good selection of unusual brews.

It's fairly decent. The back wall has some more that may not be in the fridge and check above the beer you can usually pick up a free glass if you buy 4.

Molloys have a good selection and it has expanded recently. If you prefer to shop from the comfort of your own armchair, I've been given a couple of hampers from this crowd, and it's always quite interesting.

As ever I've left it too late to order online so I'll have to do it the old fashioned way! Will drop up there tomorrow evening so and see what they have.

One of the best selections in D15 at least, especially for Irish craft beers.

Agree with all of the previous recommendations for Molloys. Irish beer at the back, foreign beer in the centre aisle, a great selection of both.

Side note - I was after a couple of bottles of 5 Lamps lager (a nice crisp pilsner, worth a look) recently and noted that Molloys were out, I tweeted the brewery and Molloys indicating supply/demand issues. Within an hour, I had a response from the brewery - they had been onto Molloys, Molloys followed up the next day and had replenished the stock. Good service by all concerned.

Not to go too off topic but I recommend Boston Lager @ Molloys, a good solid dark beer. Try the Breakfast Stout for something different - an appreciation of a stout / coffee mix required.

Sweet, I may even have to buy a bottle or two for myself so.

The guys who brew Kentucky Bourbon Ale also do a coffee stout. It's interesting, but I couldn't drink more than one at a time.

Any suggestions from Molloy's for picking up a nice six pack tonight? Would prefer something cold, strong and reasonably priced

Beer, lager, IPA, stout? All very good from my point of view:

    Hilden Twisted Hop
    Boston Lager
    Brewdog Fake Beer
    Blacks Kinsale Pale Ale
    Kinnegar Limeburner

Thinking an IPA or lager but i am open to suggestions. I'm not in the mood for a stout. Something tasty when cold for when I'm videogaming :)

Was up there last night, great selection alright - you'd never be short of a new type of beer to try

As was I, sampling some some new brews. You weren't pushing a trolley by any chance? I noted a guy in similar 'browse' mode to myself about 8.30pm, I thought the trolley was ambitious!
