Hi, can you tell me the quickest way to travel from Grand Canal to Tallaght on public transport? Thanks.

Luas redline is probably the quickest depending on where in tallaght your going

Where abouts on the canal?

If it's dolphins barn are there abouts then the 77a or the 27

As Victor says use www.a-b.ie.

You have two direct routes from there, the 56a and 77a, but both take rather long tours of Tallaght before getting to the Square.

So my advice would be to:
1) Take any bus to Pearse St Garda Station (or walk)
2) Take a 27 or 65 from Hawkins Street - these will go directly to the Square

Your other alternative is to walk across to Spencer Dock and get the LUAS directly to the Square.

I suspect that the bus is the faster option.

Thanks for the update. Does the 27 or 65 buses connect with the Luas on route? I'd ideally like to take the bus half way (say Drimnagh or Suir Road) to connect with the Luas to continue my journey to Tallaght.

No they don't.

You would only end up taking more time. Better, and cheaper, to stay on the bus.

The 65 is the fastest route to the Square but is infrequent.

The 77a and then transfer to the 27 before the 77a turns off the Greenhills Rd would probably be the quickest most direct way.

The 77a took 30 mins from Grand Canal Square to Tallaght Square at 7am yesterday morning. Thanks for your help.

At that time of the morning you'd be fine.

Coming back - your best bet is one of the 27, 54a or 65 and connecting with a bus down Pearse Street, as the 77a can take longer in the evenings.
