Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

Buying the mother in law a new laptop after her old one went kaput. She has a budget of c 600 but wants a 13.3" touchscreen one that is fairly light. She doesn't really use it for much except for browsing, watching copious amounts of youtube and some basic photoshop use. Would this laptop (I know it's a bit over budget) be sufficient or would you guys be suggesting something else?

Thanks for reading and any advice that is forthcoming...

Running Windows 8 with 4 Gigs of RAM would be madness.

What about the free upgrade to win 10? Would 4 GB be enough?

4GB isnt enough for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1. I can't see how it would be enough for 10. 8 has been the minimum RAM for a few years now unless your running a chromebook.

    Please explain this.

I've used tablets and mini PC's with 1/2gb RAM and have never had issues.

For more intensive work, yes more RAM is advisable. However, for an i3, I think 4GB is perfectly fine, and Windows 10 runs fine with it.

Youve used photoshop on windows 10 with 2 gigs of RAM?

4GB RAM is fine for basic Photoshop.

You said 4GB was not enough RAM for Windows itself, which is untrue.

If you say so, but in my humble opinion, buying a brand new computer with 4gigs of ram would be foolish when there is much better options out there for the same money or less money.

I would look at something like this

Ah here. I've been using a 2nd gen i7, with 4GB, on Windows 7 and have been able to use Photoshop, InDesign, and Chrome with multiple tabs simultaneously with no issues.

I Have been using 3rd generation i5 with 6Gb ram, window 7 for 3 years now without issue. Huge money for an i3. I would also verify description header says touchscreen, but checklist say touchscreeen: no.

    Alrighty then.

I stand over my comment though. I think buying a brand new laptop i3 with four gigs of RAM for 600 quid in 2015 is not a good idea.

    I'll get my coat.

I think it's a fair point to highlight that you only get 4GB for the price paid. I think we were getting shirty over the need for 4GB :)
