Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Heading to Mizen Head soon for a day trip but possibley an overnight trip.. Will be leaving from Kinsale, any recommendations where to stop off on route for some sightseeing or lunch/dinner. Since we are there would a overnight somewhere be a good idea so we could also visit Sherkin Island or Dursey Island? Thanks:)

    Hi there,

If you plan on seeing the stretch of coastline properly, I would definitely recommend an overnight. The link below will bring you to a summarised overview of the area with a further link on to a map. The Maritime Hotel in Bantry is a pretty good overnight along your route but if you want something kinda special, then Blairs Cove near Durrus is very nice. Highly recommended for food.

If it is your first time to the area, there's a lot to take in, especially if you want to do the islands. The Mizen Centre itself and that area alone would take a day. Also keep an eye on weather; stunning views but you'll miss out if weather is poor or cloudy.

A drive around the Beara peninsula is definetely worth it :) Some great things to do in glengarriff, like going for a hike up barley lake or go for a walk in the nature reserve :) The views all the way back to castletownbere are amazing also. Driving up the healy pass in adrigole is really enjoyably with some breath-taking scenery :)

sheeps head next to mizen is worth a drive too, just in kilcrohane which is the last village before the end is a local producers shop with some nice things and local grown veg ect, once you have been down to the end of the peninsula which has some great views of the mizen and bantry bay and beara peninsula. you could head back to kilcrohane and turn left and head up the goats path head down into bantry and on to glengarriff and the beara peninsula.
