Pikachu :p Really though I picked Charmander!

My least favourite out of the ones I used was Snivy, I hadn't much interest in White starting out so thought I'd try make it interesting by using the grass type for once - it also became the first time my starter wasn't in my Elite Four team!

Yeah, Snivy was a disappointment - such a shallow move pool and lack of specialisation. Treecko was a bit the same. Fast as ****, sure, but had great physical attacking moves with no physical attacking stats and a glass jaw. Both were easily the best looking of the starters of their gen and really didn't deliver.

For me... well, you never forget your first... Squirtle por vida, homes!

I voted for one from each gen as follows:

    Charmander
    Cyndaquil
    Treecko
    Turtwig

I don't see how charmander was the best starter when the first gym was brocks rock gym....

    I enjoyed the challenge.

Edit: it did also learn Metal Claw early enough in Gen3, so that helped too.

The best in blue/red anyway was bulbasaur because it was the only one with a good enough power to be in my final 6 imo.

It seems people don't like the grass starters.

charmander only tops the polls cause charizard is over rated to ****

Perhaps before, but now with mega evolutions Charizard is much more useful than it was. So, yeah... That doesn't hold up now.

Gen 1 usually wins through nostalgia but Gen 3 and 4 have much better starters. Torchic [and by extension Blaziken] probably wins it for me. Infernape, Swampert and Empoleon were all class too, best of the bunch imo.

Charmander, because I always pick Charmander :P

Piplup is awesome too, that Water/Steel final evolution..

I only know the 150 originals.. and therefore the 3 starters... I feel lost...

    Gen 1: Squirtle > Bulbasaur > Charmander
Even though Charmander's my least favourite of the three original starters (though not by much) I think it's the best one to pick because there are comparatively few good fire Pokémon in Gen 1 whereas there are plenty of strong water types and a few other good grass types. Plus it makes the game more challenging for the first two gyms.

    Gen 2: Cyndaquil > Totodile > Chikorita
Typhlosion is probably my favourite fully evolved starter so Cyndaquil wins this! The Totodile line is pretty awesome too though. Chikorita's grand, just not as cool as the other two.

    Gen 3: Mudkip > Treecko > Torchic
Definitely my least favourite set of starters. I fúcking hate Blaziken - I don't care how strong it is, it's such an ugly, stupid looking humanoid mess of a Pokémon. >__< And Sceptile never impressed me. Swampert is at least useful.

Gen 4: Have never played, so can't comment on their usefulness but on aesthetic appeal alone I'd go with either Turtwig or Piplup; I like turtles and I like penguins but I've never been much of a fan of monkeys.

    Gen 5: Tepig > Snivy > Oshawott
Its evolved forms are ok but Oshawott is a ridiculous looking yoke. Tepig and Snivy are both cool but Tepig wins on the cuteness factor.

Gen 6: Haven't managed to get my hands on it yet (bought a 3DS XL today though, so hopefully soon!) but I like the look of Chespin and its evolved form.
