    Open Skies comes into effect today.

    How long will it be before Ryanair flies from Europe to the US? (Maybe a small upstate New York Airport if security restrictions allow)

    Or... Aer Lingus utilises one of it's Heathrow Slots for direct LHR to JFK flights???

    I think Ryanair transatlantic is definitely in the works now alright.

    There are lots of small airports within 100 miles of New York, Chicago, LA, San Fran etc. All they would need is US Immigration to vet passengers on this side.

    I wouldnt put it past O'Leary to offer to build new airports in the USA either.

    the article mentions the heathrow hub, but would this rule have workings now or in the future, for other euopean airlines to fly direct from another european airport to the states, ie, virgin atlantic direct to/from dublin

    Yes. Virgin could start Dublin-US tomorrow, subject to all the usual requirements to get a new route up & running. There are no legal barriers.

    And have the trolly dollies up and down the aisles about a dozen times with sandwiches and scratch cards for the duration of the flight along with piped advertising and the use of mobiles in the cabin........no thanks il stick with Aer Lingus.
