Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

UPC ordered to implement 3 strikes rule....

    Mr Justice Brian Cregan granted three music companies an injunction requiring UPC Communications to move against its subscribers involved in internet piracy.

    The Irish companies of Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music sought the orders.
    ......
    Under the court's order, UPC must set up a computerised detection system within 12-15 months under which infringing subscribers are told their service will be terminated unless they stop the illegal downloading.

    Under this automated software programme, UPC would receive monthly internet protocol (IP) information from the music companies.

    It would then automatically search UPC's computer architecture to locate the relevant subscriber name and address.

    I find it hard to argue against this, but there must be a dozen ways to get around it, so how effective will it be?

    Really ? Are you off your meds ? Or have you been living under a rock for the past decade? You see no problem with people being denied a fundamental human right (d'apres the UN and European Parliament) based solely on the unproven ALLEGATIONS of a commercial entity ?     apparently eircom have never cut anybody off 5 years into their 3 strikes system

    No - I'm not off my meds and I have been living in normal society since I was born,

    I find it hard to argue against music companies trying to prevent illegal downloading. Same as I would find it hard to argue against a shopkeeper trying to prevent shoplifting.

    Using your logic nobody should be prevented from visiting child porn sites as we have a "human right" :rolleyes: to do what we want online. I (thankfully) don't hear any complaints about ISPs blocking access to those.

    Look, while this is in a very interesting decision from a number of angles, regular Boards users will know that there is now a site-wide policy that any case currently before the courts cannot now be discussed here and it applies as much to civil cases as it does to criminal cases. When the case is finished I will re-open this thread.
