God of War Ascension

Personally, I cannot wait for this. played and loved every second of the trilogy,from its immense battles to breathtaking effects and outstanding enormous scenenary in all its gigantic form. cannot wait to see what ascension brings to the table. Sony always seem to bring out a God of War title to burn out your PS console by making it work for every single frame just in time for to buy a new model.Nice!!!! roll on Friday week!

Me neither. I've never played any of the GOW series on PS3 and when I collected my PS3 console from my g/f's brother last night, he handed me GOW3 among the bunch of games. Pooping a little was an understatement.

Spent a good 4 hours playing it on Tuesday and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. That is to say it's essentially identical to GOW3. Fans will love it, but probably feel it's gotten a bit jaded by the midway point. Haven't properly played the multiplayer to be able to comment on it

I thoroughly enjoyed it but, again, felt like I'd seen it all before by the time the novelty of the epic scale wore off. They're fantastically fun hack and slash games in short sharp bursts, but despite doing it for the first two, I can't imagine myself sitting down to play through Ascension in one sitting. 4 hours on Tuesday was pretty painful in the end

I've only played GoW III myself so I'm not too hyped for this one. I downloaded the HD remake of the first in from PS+ last week so if I enjoy that I will pick up Ascension when it drops in price.

just watched rev3games review of the game and adam sessler was disgusted with a part in the game where

kratos stomped a womens face in and ya get a trophy for it called bros before hoes.

it is quite disgusting to see.

haven't rented any game in years now but with dead space 3 and tomb raider out just a few weeks before hand I cant get the money to spend on another game.

70% is **** and 80% is kinda alright.

I never got into God of war, it came out at the end of the PS2 and even though I have a PSP I never bothered with those games either but I got GOW1 off Plus and bought as they were heavily discounted.

When ever I get around to it I play them and get this game and 3 afterwards.

Ascension's multiplayer seems to be where all of the development effort went. While that is all well and good, they really should have spent more time on the single-player as that is what most people will be buying it for.

I wrote a review for it here. The multiplayer saves it from being decidedly average IMO.

So they first announce the patch to change the name of a trophy and now they're planning a patch to make a part that people have complained about easier.

From the sounds of it, the section has a ridiculous difficulty spike. I'm all in favour of a challenge but any game thats just bad design when the rest of the game is challenging and they throw that at you.

That said, I do hope they still leave it in so people can try it.

I think in the IGN review they said that it's so hard that in some cases, it is actually impossible to avoid being killed in it, no matter how good you are. If certain things happen, you'll die no matter what you do. And the difficulty isn't in keeping with the rest of the game.

I think its the suggestion that they should have to 'dumb' their game down, so to speak.

I dont really have a problem with ridiculously difficult or badly designed sections getting a patch. One of my friends is playing it and said the same the difficulty goes through the roof on that section, challenging is good, annoying to the point you want to smash your joypad off the wall is bad game design.

I think it would be just good to have the option. I'm not saying I'm great at playing games but would still like to play a game as it was originally intended.
I've seen people comparing it to the towers from the first game, I think. But I don't remember them being hard. I suppose what could make it hard is if it's a gauntlet type scenario where it takes half an hour to get halfway through and if you die, you get sent back to the beginning. That would be annoying so adding checkpoints would be good.

there's a few annoying parts in the other games as well, like that one in the first game where you have to kick a crate or something up a hill while being attacked, and another with a conveyor belt. grrrr.

I just played that section last night for the very first time. It was simply maddening. Who thought that was a good idea?

This should arrive in the post for me early next week. I'm curious about this difficult section of the game that was patched after release. Gonna start the game offline to see exactly how "hard" it is. Its not impossible, right?

The crate and hill section, twas indeed. the rest is great though but that section drove me nuts.

Why does this game have so many performance issues? I don't have GOW3 to compare it to but the frame rate, AA and stutter while the camera pans are all alot worse than GOW3. And the bloom, my god the bloom effect in this game. Maybe playing games exclusively on PC for the past year has spoiled me and coming back to a current gen console i actually see how dated the hardware really is.

I was tempted to pick up God of War 3 on the way home from work today just to compare it as in my mind God of War 3 was flawless. Other than that the game is epic as per usual from a GOW title. The first boss/area really wow'd me.

It's all very same old same old so far, lovely looking in places, suitably huge scale, the first boss was pretty gigantic. But its near identical to the Colossus or any other large boss, mash mash mash, it flops over, hit R1, trigger QTE, watch Kratos run around using the environment to impale the boss on, rinse, repeat. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, handy it came with a 30 day free psn+ pass though, will get other games with that for the month.

Anyone find that there's a weird lack of music? loads during the big battles but then nothing when you're running around, the other games all had something playing even if it was just running about or solving puzzles, the camera placement is annoying at times as well, its very meh tbh.

So i'm really enjoying this, probably as much as the previous ones. The time altering stuff is reminding me of prince of persia and there's some great puzzles with this ability. There also a hint of darksiders with the doppleganger option. Reached the level of the trial of archimedes last night (playing on normal), got to the third wave on my first go and then left it be so hoping to be finished it tonight for trade-in tomorrow. Hopefully gamestop are still doing the 25% extra and I might pre-order the new metro 2033.

Started playing this yesterday.

Had a glitch when getting Poseiden's power and the roomwas all dark. Thought it was part of it but couldn't see the enemies so died. Lights were on when restarted.

Also I find it really annoying and hard to see when it zooms out so far that I can't make Kratos out among the enemies unless he attacks.

I had a bad glitch playing this last night too. I was using the Amulet to reconstruct the aqueduct and I had the puzzle complete. As I was about to jump to the next platform I missed my jump and fell off the newly constructed water wheel. I was then unable to use the Amulet to deconstruct it to get back to where I was. Had to restart because there was no way for me to kill myself.

Also, am I imagining things or is there next to no music score in this game. I'm about 6 hours in and all I remember is near silence apart from soundeffects and the odd bit of music when the action heats up.
