Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cunningham looking outside county for players with Roscommon connections it seems.

Kerry born Conor Cox and Leitrim top scorer last season Keith Beirne are both going to be training with Roscommon squad. Rumours that former Dublin under 21 winning goalkeeper JB Carthy is also being looked at.

Hopefully he can unearth a few defenders and midfielders too :)

JB Carthy doesnt even play for his clubs 1st team so I wouldnt hold out much hope there tbh

Get buying those 100 euro tickets. Only 6000 sold so far so the house is paid for, but not much profit unless we get a good run on sales.

I thought the house was a donation from Mulryan?

I got an email last night saying thanks for buying my ticket (some time back) and currently 7200 have been sold

    Not even half the target?
    That's so poor.
    I'm surprised.

How many were you expecting them to sell? If a county as small as Roscommon end up selling around 800,000 worth of tickets I would consider it good work by the sellers than poor.

    Same here.

I was expecting them to sell the amount they intended to sell.
With all the advertising In dublin and the commuter belt, I thought they'd do a lot better.
    Time to yet, I suppose.

They should push for companies to offer a ticket through the Small Benefit Exemption Scheme where you don't pay tax on the value. Same as a One4All voucher. So if you're on the higher rate you save €48 out of the €100 price.

As this is a 'lottery' I'm not sure if the tax rules allow it but still.

On centers of excellence, they are white elephants when our urban areas are being over run with soccer pitches. GAA is almost running away from the challenge of urbanisation of modern society ploughing so much money into fields that are so far from all the other facilities people need.
    Agreed
New GAA club needed in monksland for instance
Thankfully clann doing a great service to the population here in monksland. So vast majority of local population delighted to be part of clann.

Of course if you had a CoE in monksland it would make it easy for the few unhappy people to perhaps form a break away club. But that won't happen now.

No, house was purchased at cost price or close to. The donation was forgoing any commercial profit.

County Board Treasurer David O’Connor said on shannonside radio tonight that the number they intended to sell was 10,000 tickets and that 70% of the tickets sold so far have a Dublin address.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭Addle

I think it was her that I read the target was 15,000.
Better odds for me at 10,000!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,555 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

It is capped at 15k tickets, 10k might just be a realistic target they have set for themselves.

you'd imagine that expats would be a huge market for this draw?

According to Frankie Dolan, Brian Stack has been told rest up for 6 months so I think we can add him to list of players that likely won't be playing county for a while.

Ciarán Murtagh, John McManus, Cathal Compton, Tadhg O Rourke all look to be leaving for the year and it's unlikely Diarmuid Murtagh plays any part in the league due to severe eye injury.

Fintan Cregg, Conor Devaney and Cathal Cregg from accounts have at least committed themselves for the league.

Did the Treasurer say that / was there a breakdown of the locations published somewhere? That'd be interesting to see.

I hear they are on course to hit a million next week

I was talking to one of the committee members 10/12 days ago.
They know the break down but not sure they will be publishing them.

900k figure was passed at the weekend.

Was just checking the website for places to buy them and noticed this pic. Why are 3 people sitting laughing at a TV that's not even switched on? :D

In just 4 months 1 million euro in ticket sales was passed today and that was their intended target to sell they say.

Significant win for clann tonight in division 1 u20, beating a brigids team that called on members of 4 in a row minor team. Clann started strong, but survived a spirited brigids revival to win 0-15 to 1-10.

We got a ticket number just short of 9400 yesterday

What an unbelievable effort from all involved, a massive contribution to Roscommon GAA and hopefully we can finally upgrade the Hyde and work on the centre of excellence. €943000 net profit is nothing to be sniffed at by the 6th smallest county in Ireland. Well done to all involved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭Addle

    He meant population.

What difference does geographical size make if there are very few people? Dublin is a tiny county geographically.

It matters when we've no GAA club in our largest population centre and our 3rd biggest population centre plays in a different county

I'm pretty sure the poster wants a new club formed.about 3 mile away from a current one.

Which is the second biggest population centre in County Roscommon.

It is and Johnstown pitch is a few miles away.Is there really any need for another club ,why would someone in Monksland not play with Clann?

    Not when you include Athlone
Clubs on the Westmeath side are allowed recruit from the connacht side of the river.
Roscommon needs another club on the edge of athlone

What about Clann? And Ballaghaderreen's surely not the third largest town, especially if you're counting Monksland? Roscommon, Boyle, Castlerea all definitely a good bit bigger than Ballagh aswell.

There is a decent part of Athlone on the west of the Shannon which is officially Westmeath. I didn't know this myself until a few years ago. Enon Gavin (among others) came from within this area, but played with Clann and Roscommon his entire career.

Geographically it's in county Roscommon .
It's afaik only in the last 30 odd years it was incorporated into the Westmeath postal area.
