Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

cant believe he was left in the team so long. hes been shocking this tournament. they must just not have a lot of striking options? i mean podolski spent the best part of the season playing in the reserves and he still made it too!

Liam Brady before the game p1ssed me off talking about dutch football, in comparison to Irish and English football, he said we are a small population, we have 16 million ppl and are 4 times bigger population wise in comparison to Ireland.

    Brady ****!

The Dutch have superior underage setups compared to anyone in the world imo.

    anyway......

    The pitch is a state!

I think this game is the toughest one to call of all the quarter-final ties. It wouldn't surprise me if it went to ET or even penalties. I fancy the Germans to just about edge it. Hopefully this is the game where Klose finds the back of the net.

Hear, hear. Why, do you have money on Klose? I have 20 on him as first goalscorer at 13/2

I'll probably be proven wrong in the next couple of hours, but does anyone else really not rate Nuno Gomes? I've never seen him be anything more than an average striker.

    Pig Farmer on fire tonight.

The Germans are setting my Fantasy alight.

Rofles did do something funny there, Mike, fell over the ball!

Portugal will not come back here, you can quote me on that. they dont have the mental strength to do it

Jesus Portugal are making a change already. although i think it might be injury related

germany walking through portugal defense and portugal just dont look right. Hoping they loose so can find out what ronaldo is upto.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Tom65

Most of the Germans are having a stormer - Ballack, Pig Farmer, Podolski - but the Portuguese are fairly anonymous so fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭Longrangedriver

Anyone spot the Jewish flags behind the German goal.

Whats going on there, if Ronaldo scores, I wonder would Lehmann do a Sic Hail!!!.:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,676 ✭✭✭Chong

All I can say this is some game !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

Game on! Great initial play by Deco, and Ronaldo timed that run and touch beautifully. Gomes, crap or not, may have just started the turnaround.

I was both right and wrong...

Still, the game needed it. A third German goal would've finished it.

It makes it more interesting but i will stand by my comment, Portugal are going home

By the way, who's the pig farmer and why is he called so??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,676 ✭✭✭Chong

Schweinsteiger is german for Pig Farmer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

Pig Farmer = Schweinsteiger. In German 'Schweinsteiger' literally means pig farmer.

Anyone here know much about gambling??

OK - I would appreciate someones help - asap if possible.

I have €40 on Portugal to win Euro 2008 @20/1. They have just scored a goal against Ger and are now about 9/1. I want to cash out - what should I do? How much would I make if Ger win? If I do lay am I guaranteed to win regardless?

    Thanks

You have €40 on Portugal to win, you cant just back out, Paddy Power wouldnt be the billionaires they are by letting people back out! Wave bye bye to your money! Not that Im one to talk I bet on Italy to win! :)
Great game, would'nt rule Portugal out yet, it will go to extra time imo.

They could beat Germany but loose the semi's or the final!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 456 ✭✭twenty8

Yes - but can I not lay money on Portugal to lose??? Therfore if Port WIN Euro (unlikely now!) I will win the original bet - but if they LOSE then I would also win with my new bet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

    Good game so far.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

no sense in laying anything until the final im afraid.

The rain will probably help the Portugeese since the German defence is pretty slow in the centre

But still, in Ballack we trust

Ah sorry I thought you meant lay them in this game, well if you lay them at 9-1 you could recoup some money or you could just be cutting your winnings

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

    ok look at simplified version

quickly, dont bother laying or thinking about a covering bet unless Portugal get to the final.

your only covering bet should be on the team Portugal face in the final

just let it ride for this game, if they go out its only 40euro......

    Ballack!

love it when a plan comes together!

knew ze Germans wouldnt let me down after getting a 2 goal head start lol

This is why I felt Portugal would go nowhere in this tournament. They are always disorganised a the back and have too many passive defenders.

Yet another assist for Pig Farmer.

    Nice fouling by Ballack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Had to laugh at the ITV commentary.

"It's not Scolari's fault that his team doesn't defend properly."

A gentle hands off if anything

LOL now thats pathetic, he didnt do anything wrong there! a little push in the back? it happens at virtually every set piece and you shouldnt take away form the goal or the fact that the defending was poor

ask a better question, why is a small guy like Ferreira marking a big guy with great aerial presence like Ballack? poor coaching, with no Klose on the pitch there really was no excuse for why Pepe wasnt marking Ballack

lol id have to agree, sure its not like hes coaching them or anything

more tactical genuis there! taking off a (albeit ****e) striker and bringing on a winger when you need goals! no actual orthodox natural striker on the pitch now for them
