What's a good alternative to a Clio sport 172/182, year 2000+? Small, light, plenty of power, same-ish price?

Citroen Saxo VTS or a Ford Puma Racing if you can find one within budget.

Something different that falls into your budget, cheap tax, cheap insurance and should hold it's value. :)

Just bore the 1.6 crossflow to 85mm and get 1760, assuming that you can still get the pistons.

Sorry but not in the same league as the 182 as a drivers car.

Puma racing would be the pick of the bunch, but there are few if any for sale in Ireland, and they still sell for 4/5/6k sterling in the UK.

Honda Civic EP3 Type R would be nice if you could insure it and find one at the right money. Should pick up a good one for 4k.

Or look at a MK4 golf GTi. Those 1.8t's are great for getting power out of!

MkII Fiat Punto 1.8 HGT is worth a look for too, not many about though.
