Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All,

I'm looking for an Independent BMW mechanic around the Athlone around.
    Any good recommendations?

No BMW owner (that I know of at least) wants to have to deal with Colm Quinns.
Not questioning the quality of work done by the lads, as there is no doubt they know their stuff.
But what they charge is pure criminal.

    For example:
Had a little tip around Christmas, skidded on ice and tipped a poll.
Nothing too bad or anything, but still went to Colm Quinns to get a quote to fix it that same day.
Quote €1150 (Roughly) to replace the bumper :(

    Outrageous!

Found a sound lad Brendan who works in Monksland Motorpark. And he sorted me out.
Got me a second had bumper, sprayed it and fitted it for €600.
(Which is actually less than what I think BMW were quoting me for labour alone!!!)

I'd definitely go back to Brendan for some work, but with sensors, I'm guessing (and I've been told) that I shouldn't risk it and just get a BMW guy to do it.

So, Anyone know of any good BMW independents??? :)

    Cheers,
    Paul :)

That's a normal quote for a brand new bumper, I had to get a brand new M-Sport rear bumper and 2 new sensors and all the paint and labour together with the parts came to around €1200, I find it's best to go genuine/new to be honest.

It was nearly €700 in labour they were trying to charge me! (They must have wanted to pay a mechanic to sit and watch the paint dry on the bumper! :P )

I agree that somethings should be only done at a BMW garage, but it's always nice to have an ex BMW mechanic (BMW Independent) who can look at these things and not charge me a fortune!

To be fair, you should never go to a main dealer for bodywork anyway as they just fob it off to an external companies. Have never heard of any dealer having an in house Bodyshop anyway.
