Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

UK falling into a police sate??

    Just thinking. Are our locals falling into a ploice sate? MPs offices been searched. Police entering the house of Parliament. MP been held for 9hrs for leeking info to the public. Gun ban... every dictator in history has banned firearms from its public. ID cards. Illegal to protest outside the house of parliament without permission. looking to hold terror suspects for months without charge etc etc. CCTV camers everywhere.

    Is it the start of the slippery slope into a police state?

    Not to mention that the police there are looking to have powers to stop and search anyone they like! without any reason. Its already been reintroduced in the north of Ireland.

    Been watching that story with interest. It was a bit of an over-reaction by the law (I think).
    If they wanted to find a 'grass' they could have taken the the route of bringing him to court to put pressure on him to talk. By going into not only his own home, constituency office but also then his Parilment office and cleaning it out completely of every file, it was a bit extreme to say the least.

    If the mole admitted that he did it - which he did to the public on camera via his solicitor, what he passed on wasn't ultra-secret. Confidential yes, but vital to the security of the nation? Codswallop.
    Over-reaction definitely.

    Could you imagine the fallout if the Dail was invaded by Gardi and they raid completely Jackie Healy Rae's office!
    - Thinking about it, I'd be half afraid of what they might find! Suggestions on a postcard please...

    they dont police the streets as they are far too busy harrassing parliamentarians for getting information with which to hold the government to account, investigating icelandic terrorism, and kicking old age pensioners out of labour party conferences for dissent.

    Secondary schools in Leeds are to be assigned their very own dedicated police officers in a new initiative.

    West Yorkshire police are working with Safer Leeds to run the new Safer Schools Partnership, which will oversee a team of 24 full time officers working across 38 high schools to support education and awareness.

    Officers will tackle common issues which occur in school, including absenteeism and truancy, along with offering wider support in local communities as part of the government's Every Child Matters agenda.

    When I was in school we just had a dean of discipline. :eek:

    A bill was proposed last year with the intention of banning all reported matters concerning national security. They would love to get control over blogging sites. :D

    Not to mention arresting MPs for taking photos of cycle lanes. While these sort of things always worry me I always have pleasant encounters with the authorities over there including British police. Maybe it's because I'm white and European. Not that I have many encounters but any time I do they've always been quite pleasant and friendly to deal with. I don't think the police are part of any grand conspiracy, they're at the coalface just doing a job, sometimes in a numskulled way but not in a sinister way imo.

    It's voluntary at the minute so I presume the law being brought in would make it compulsory, I haven't looked though.
