no - I got 3 cards today and it says you don't need to top up to use them between the 11th and the 24th, but obviously after that you'll need credit on them if you want to use them.

Can someone explain the Leap card and where it can be used outside the pale.
Seems like a good idea but is pretty useless unless you are in Dublin

Is Cork bus service the only other option? Are there plans to expand to other cities and towns and to trains etc?
Seems like a good bargain but not much use to a chunk of Irish kids.

Handy if you are bringing the kids to Dublin for a day :)

Yes, at the moment, it is mostly Dublin, Cork and some Bus Éireann, Wexford Bus, Swords Express and Matthews Coaches commuter buses to and from Dublin (the greater Dublin Area, Wicklow, etc.).

They plan on extending it to Limerick, Galway, etc. soon.

Eventually I expect it will be accepted by all public transport in the country, or close to it.

Bit late to the party. Seems you can't get free ones anymore?
Due to phenomenal demand, our stock of free child 4 – 15 cards has now been exceeded so we can’t process your order. However, 4-15 cards are still available to order online at http://www.leapcard.ie or you can get one in over 400 shops in Dublin where you’ll be charged a €3 deposit + €5 (minimum) Travel Credit. See http://www.payzone.ie to find your local Leap Card shop. - See more at: http://www.childleapcard.ie/buy/#sthash.7TgHDJDT.dpuf

    Dang....

Are existing child cards free during this period aswell or did you have to order a special free card?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,651 ✭✭✭✭beauf

    Only with the leap afaik

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,881 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

What? If a child has an existing LEAP card that they bought 6 months ago is it currently free to use during this period?

Or did they need to have ordered some special free card to get this offer?

Would be best to open a new thread with the 2017 dates as the date would throw you on this thread title. I don't know why Boards don't flamming lock these old threads. Its a right pain in the ass at times.

Sorry, bit of a newbie and couldn't do it - makes sense as the dates in the thread title are old so don't apply either
