Just wondering. With the Carlow Bypass opening as M9, could people in and around the Moate area keep an eye on the soon-to-be-opened N6 build to see if blue signs go up from the start. I'd hope this would open as M given the M9 thing, but you never know in this country. Can people keep a heads-up or is there any news from there about it?

There are some Blue signs at the Moate / Clara Junction.
But the Athlone bypass section is likely to remain as an N road.

I travelled to Tullamore recently and there were no signs of motorway reclassification at J5 (Tullamore/Kilbeggan) which is the current terminus of the N6 HQDC, but these signs might be the last to go up just before opening, particularly if reclassification of J2-J5 comes at the same time.

Yeah Athlone will stay as N for now. No point spending money updating that to M until other, more needed schemes are done.

Good tho that the Moate scheme looks like opening as M.

A related question. Anyone got a date or an idea when the kilbeggan to athlone part of N6 will be opening?

Officially late Summer and looking at the current state of the works near Athlone, that will be about right.

All the schemes have been slowed down by the monumentally **** weather we've been having. Its much easier to dig and build when its dry than when everything turns into a quagmire.
