Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Taxi club = better transport

Taking this idea from overseas, now that the colder months are approaching, maybe regular bus users should consider this option.

Pool together and hail a taxi , quicker and almost as cheap. Here's an example 4 people in a taxi from Cabinteely to St.Stephens Green after 8am is c.€18 (€4.50 each), if they they travel by bus it would be €2.80 each, so for less than the price of a cup of tea each they'd be in town much quicker ;)

Now we have to take into account different routes will affect the taxi fare as well as traffic jams ( from Dundrum into Dawson St at rush hour would be impossible but on main routes N1,2,3,4,7,11 it's a lot easier ) - DBus don't charge you for sitting in heavy traffic but IF you had a regular taxi driver on the route then you could negotiate a deal/standard fare, he'd be happy with the regular business and everyone would reach their destination quicker :)

Taxi fares have not risen since 2008 whereas other public transport has yearly rises ('to account for increasing fuel prices' they say - taxis don't use fuel ??:P )

Cabinteely to Stephen's Green is only €2.45 on the Leap Card, it's even cheaper again if a prepaid ticket or taxsaver ticket is used.

If this idea did actually get up off the ground Dublin Bus could very well cut services. In that case, would the taxi drivers be so quick to offer "deals" then?

Also the first rule of taxi club is that you don't talk about taxi club...

not as good as you think because

    - people will have paid holidays, be out sick etc, leaving the others to pick up their share.

    - if someone is late, how long do you wait with the meter running, or do you go without them, again leaving everyone else to pick up the tab. and is there the guarantee that everyone will always leave work bang on time?

    - taxis will get stuck behind buses if they're using bus lanes, so not as much faster as you'd think.

    - €2.80 (€5.60 for 2 journeys) is a cash fare for 14+ stages. most people will making a journey on a regular basis will have prepaid tickets of some sort, getting the cost down to just over €4 per day, and potentially much lower using Taxsaver bus tickets.

And the "after 8am" stipulation pretty much eliminates private sectors workers.

You'd want to be living a long way out of the city centre for a taxi not to get you to work in an hour.

Why? Do all private sector employees have to be at work by 8.30?
