Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Now make you merry gentlemen
    Let nothing you dismay
    Remember that the sun returns
    On this, the Solstice day
To save us all from winter's thrall
    He hasn't gone away
Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
Oh tidings of comfort and joy!

Smoothly round the earth is turning,
    Turning always into darkness,
    And from darkness into light...

Just home from a fantastic winter solstice celebration with my OH's family with included the (supposedly) origional pre-christian rendition of 'The Holly and the Ivy.' Should have written it down because I've forgotten it now, only the start which is still widely known. Holly and Ivy are traditional pagan symbols of fertility.

The holly and the ivy, when they are both full grown,
Of all the trees that are in the wood, the holly bears the crown.

What's with that piece in the OP, is it supposed to be a song or something? Not the most inspiring piece of poetry I've seen :pac:

I believe it's just a statement written on plaque that are put up by Atheist organisations in some public places in the US at Christmas time. Some examples:

It is of my opinion that this tradition should be started in Ireland too.

Its probably best to leave the Christmas Carols to the believers, for much the same reasons why it's for the best that Stephen Hawking has not tried to enter The X-Factor :D
