Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

^ yeah same here.Canvassing was supposed to have finished at 2pm today and leaflets from FG and the Sommerville came in this evening. Lost my vote on that basis alone!
Haskins and anyone else I say;)

Well that shows your ignorance about the moratorium rules.
There is no rule about a canvassing/campaigning moratorium - it only applies to media/press. Candidates can keep canvassing/leaflet-dropping etc until polls close tomorrow.

I have no idea where you got that idea that canvassing was supposed to stop @ 2pm today - it was a media embargo .... no suggestion whatsoever that canvassing was to stop as you will see tomorrow when all parties will continue to canvas....... and in the case of FG and FF will be offering lifts to people if they want to go to the polls. You might want to reconsider your principled stance when you see the FF taxis pulling up to bring their voters to the poll?

Anyone have anything to add about James Coyle or Hugh Sheehy? I'm a blow-in to the constituency and haven't heard much about any candidates outside of the main parties. I'm also regretting not having spent more time researching independents...

TBH I can't tell the difference between live Radio/TV blabber and the leaflets coming in the letter box. You can switch off the TV/Radio as you can put the leaflet in the bin. It's all media no?
And surely they should allow people 24hours to reflect on all their bull**** talk anyhow instead of trying to dupe the people with lifts and candy?:D
thejournal.ie show a breakdown of the 16 candidates running in DSE.

I found something unexpected in my post-box last night. Along with all the parties' bumf, there was a 20 Euro note! Unfortunately, it was not stapled to any of the candidates' leaflets so I don't know which one was bribing me! has anyone alse come across this?

I think this shows it's ebtween Sommerville and Humphreys. It also shows that there has been a consistent move for Sommerville since the huge attendance at the meeting on Monday in Jurys. Maybe this shows why....

This time tomorrow 7/4 might be looking very generous..... he was 3/1 before the Jurys gig!!

    Roy

You heard it here first lads..... Sommerville now top price 5/4!!!!

    This.

Dublin SE is socially liberal. FG is fairly strong here and the lazy analysis is FG==Conservative. This forgets the Garret Fitz era and the fact that FF is a lot more Catholic Conservative. The traditional Labour vote is fairly Old School Trade Union and doesn't always appreciate the Ivana Baciks of the national party.

Economically it's wealthy (Dublin SE)and in general in Ireland people look for their own interests - wealthy areas want low taxes, poorer areas want more Social Welfare. Ideology never really comes into it, apart from the odd pockets of smoked salmon socialism which is never terribly strong, just has a disproportionate media representation.
Dse was one of two constituencies that voted against the 1983 protection of the unborn debacle .

Just back from Whitefriar street and it was surprisingly subdued. It'll be interesting to see the turnout.

It has been reported on rte that hundreds of students who recently attempted to register were prevented from voting, given that many would be living in DSE, would this potentially affect the result?

Thanks to this thread for reminding me who Somerville was, I had forgotten his name since his appearance on Vincent Browne at the time of the bailout talks. Voted for himself first, Haskins 2nd and SF third.

That might well affect Haskins' chances, I wonder if Whitefriar St is TCD's nearest polling station?

I took a punt on yer man Coyle, then Haskins, then FG.

I think the polling station on Pearse St. (St. Andrew's community centre_ might be marginally closer.

A lot would vote in Dartry, close to Trinity hall.

Those living in Halls are not all Irish citizens so they wont be worth any votes. Also many students still do prefer to vote in their own constituency. I dont think the location of TCD in DSE will be worth much to Haskins

    1. Ruari Quinn
    2. Kevin Humphreys
    3. Dylan Haskins
    4. Paul Somerville

Any bets on who will get the 4 seats?

Looks like Quinn, Creighton and Murphy are a cert to take the first three.

Ugh Creighton irritates me immensely!!! I really hope someone gives her a run for her money, she is too smug!

It will probably be Quinn, Creighton, Murphy and Humphreys. Gormley and Andrews to be the big losers.
