Are political parties/alliances allowed to canvas on election day? One of them is driving around with a loud speaker on their vehicle urging people to vote for them.

Yes they are. They just have to keep away from polling stations.

Think it might be the same guy i had around my area on Monday.
Yes canvassing is allowed on election day.
But he could be done for disorderly conduct or a similar offence if someone was to complain to the Gardai.

Saw none yesterday but had several callers on Thursday, thought there was supposed to be a moratorium the day before an election.

Legally they can stand outside or even inside the polling station however they are not allowed to campaign, have posters or large signs within 50 meters of the polling station.

One local candidate in our area sat out in the car park watching people going in and out to vote. People didn't like that he was watching them and complained. He didn't get his seat and I think it was because of this, he did himself out of the seat.
