There was a very interesting twist in the men's prone rifle event. The bronze medal winner is normally a 50m pistol shooter!

Nick Mowrer has made finals at World Cup level in free pistol but cross-trains in prone rifle. His scores were good so he went for selection and got selected to represent USA in Ft Benning. He made it through the elimination round and then shot well enough in the qualification round to make the final. In the final he beat a lot of established rifle shooters who between them have tens of medals at high level competitions. He missed out on contesting for the gold & silver medals by only 0.2.

I guess if you've got good wind reading skills and exceptional trigger control you can be taught the rest! :D

EDIT: He's still ranked 32nd in the world for 50m pistol, but now he's ranked 8th for men's prone and is the highest-ranked US shooter!
