Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

job applications

I was looking at an application for a job in meath today. In addition to the usual questions it also asked: Have you ever been the subject of an inquiry of investigation by the Health Service Executive/An Gardaí concerning a child welfare matter, or an investigation arising from a complaint/allegation of child abuse or wrongdoing towards a minor? YES NO

Does this mean that if a teacher is a malicious allegation is made against a teacher that they have to make this known. Surely if you are vetted by the garda that should be enough?

I am just wondering if anyone has views on this.

    Thanks

i would answer it honestly, not that you wouldn't, but misinformation on an application form can be grounds for dismissal in some cases.

yep. I think you're right about honesty on application forms. I am not applying for a job but I was asked to be a referee and I was kat wondering if such a question does not go against the idea of natural justice. In the event that you answer yes and then go onto explain that it was a malicious allegation which was found to have no basis I think the principal looking at it would simply bin it on the ground that there is no some without fire. That is obviously very unfair but that is what I think would happen in many cases.

    Thanks for your reply.

Sadly I think youre right ,there are far too many applicants for every job .They can cherry pick from the very best .They wont give a second glance to applications with the slightest hint of 'negativity '.

I think it's an unfair question given the hoops that have to be jumped through to get Garda vetting. I understand the sensitivities around the matter but I doubt there's a Principal in the country that would really hang around long enough to hear a story about a malicious allegation when they would have no shortage of applicants for a job.
