Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

M50 Sandyford to Tallaght - windy?

    Is it just me or is it really really windy on the m50 driving from sandyford to tallaght?

    Or is it the road service is just crap?

    Once i pass tallaght the road feels much better and the car stops swaying back and forth.

    you right its very windy, especially over the last few days due to uncle Bill in the Atlantic.
    that spot is bad as the wind comes straight down the mountains and hits the m50.
    im just waiting for them to put the hording up along that stretch as it will prob be worse, because of the vortexes.

    Between Sandyford and Tallaght is all high ground, up to and over 100 metres. This means that on a day with a strong wind from the east to the northwest (or thereabouts (today it a strong and gust northwesterly)) will be more pronounced on this stretch of the M50 as you are basically the first thing the wind is hitting as you are completely exposed to the wind here, in most parts anyway. Also, a strong southerly or westerly wind coming over the mountains can often be funnelled through valleys or generally made stronger as they come down the lee of the mountains before hitting this exposed stretch of the M50 on their way down to sea level.

    Best tip is to slow down if you feel that you're not under full control of your vehicle. The slower you drive in high winds, the less buffeting you should encounter. Although this stretch of the M50 is only a 60kmh limit so the wind must be very bad and gusty indeed for it to affect cars to this extent. That, or cars are driving faster than the limit. Although, when the M50 upgrades are complete, the limit will be back to 100kmh anyway

    There are high wind warning signs on that stretch of the M50.

    I didn't notice any wind waning signs, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention?

    I was wondering if the conditions were some sort of temporary road service or something because I found it difficult at times to stop the car drifting.

    Glad it's not just me ... but everyone else seemed able to fly past !
