Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lucan to Sandyford Industrial Estate plus Parking

    Hi,

I'm considering a job in Sandyford Industrial estate, but the big issue is the 15 miles of traffic from Lucan via the M50 to it, and what sounds like a desperate scramble for parking spaces.

I took a test drive there at 9pm at night, and it took about 40 mins.
Q1. What's the commuting time like in rush hour ?
( From Lucan, or N4/M50 intersection if that gets more replies)

Q2. When your companies car spaces are full, where do people park, and how much does it cost ?

I saw the Luas park 'n' ride car park, which is apparently €4 a day.. but there's some "extra" charge of you don't use the Luas.
Anyone know how much this "extra" charge is, or do ye just buy the cheapest Luas ticket and use that ?

    regards,
    Owen

    About €40-50.

What time would you have to be there at ?

The big problem is getting onto the M50

I don't know what the M50 is like early in the morning, but if you are in South Lucan it might be worth considering the outer ring road and then joining at the Naas road or up Belgard road and then to Ballymount.

I used to drive from Leixlip to Ballinteer on the M/N4 then M50, till late last year. I would leave at 06:30 from Leixlip and could hit Ballinteer any time from 7 to 7:30. If I left after 7 it could take 2 hours plus, and this was before most of the roadworks started. The problem with taking the Ring road is that you still have to cross the M50 somewhere and all roads into town in the morning are packed, at least on the N4 there are several lanes to play with. Then you have the fun of trying to get into the estate itself, from what I've heard that can take a long time.

Depending how far from the N4 you are it may be quicker to get a bus into town, bus lanes nearly all the way, and a Luas to Sandyford, 25 min. With the advantage that you can catch up on sleep. If you are at the far end of the estate buy an old bike and leave it locked at the luas stop.

There has been a huge clamp down on on street parking in Sandyford and it's all pay and display, with traffic wardens doing the rounds to ticket offenders.

Edit- Forgot to add, that when I was driving it there used to be huge tailbacks from the Firhouse exit past the Ballinteer exit. I used to cut across to the green route but I wasn't going into Sandyford.

If you are going to be using the M50 then you need to be on it no later then 6:45am if you want to avoid the worst traffic - I travel from the red cow, a bit further south then the N4 junction on a regular basis. After 6:45 it appears that for every 5 mins you delay you get 10 mins added to your journey time.

Parking is manic - espcially since the luas opened up a few years back. I just can't see how you will get free on street parking there.

Cheers for the replies Victor, Capt'n Midnight, Del2005 & dogmatix.

Luckily this is only a fact finding mission, plus a test run out there this morning for a 9:30am interview. The commute doesn't compare well with the current 40 min bus journey on the QBC into the city centre.

Yeah, I ended up taking the path of least resistance after Fonthill Road was jammed with cars heading for the N4. So I took the outer ring road to Newlands Cross and joined the N7 instead.

I left the Penny Hill pub area around 8:10am, ended up at the Sandyford M50 junction 14 at 9am, and took about 15 mins to get into the estate.

All the pay & display spaces were gone, and the Luas park 'n' ride car parks were full, but the new Beacon shopping centre had plenty of parking and the first 3 hours are free. So I had a vast choice of empty car spaces for free :)

thanks for all the info, I think laziness will keep me in the city centre instead.
Feel free to continue the thread if ye want, but I've got all the info I need.

    thanks & regards,
    Owen
